What the heck are those two (unused on my car) nuts on the top front of the bracket used for? It's just a couple of 5/16" nuts welded up there, and they're not doing anything in my application. Are they for some a/c condenser attachment usage or something?

Thanks,
Mike

My OEM shroud the car came with did not have them, but when buying this replacement in '97 the guys had just tooled up for them, found at Cypress Garden show....and so they said that for a '72 they unsure if needed or not, so I assumed for another year application....mounting the fan shroud, a plate off mine on top center did not line up with them nutz, other than that, no clue...

I would bet you have a replacement support, which is good, it's about 1/2 the weight of the OEM....even WITH the rust removed....

BTW, I drilled holes all through the bottom edge of my support, and dumped tons of paint down there till it ran out....then installed it.....
I at least tried to stop the rust on the new unit....

:crylol:

Yours is OEM??

I thought they were there to attach the fan shroud?

The shroud attachment nuts are on the top rear of the support. The nuts in question are on the top front of the support, roughly two inches forward and three inches to the left of the shroud nuts. (Some attachment points for the a/c condenser is all I can imagine.) I made a small aluminum bracket to bolt there to support the alternator wiring harness extension that runs across the top front of the radiator.

Larry, the Kissimmee NCRS show is this weekend. As usual I'll be wandering the swap meet area looking at stuff. If I don't find a darn cheap used BB radiator support to use as my sample to build the support jig, I'd be interested in renting your BB radiator support if the offer is still there. I would certainly pay all shipping costs.

Thanks,
Mike

I had the 70 radiator support powder painted, then I sealed up the seams and holes with duct tape, except for one of the big holes on top (?? forget exactly where now.) Then I poured a lot of Rustoleum primer into the one hole and then duct taped it. Then I turned the support sidesways, upside down, etc to slosh paint throughout all the interior. Next I drained out the rustoleum primer, and then cleaned up any that had ran out of the seams...so as to not mess up my powder painted exterior.

I've also done the above with the front most removeable crossmember (the one the bumpers bolt to) and the differential support crossmember.

I think your correct about the condenser mounting. I thought you were talking about the nutplates on the lower support cradles (where the rubber cushion is).

Let me know when you need the support. I'll look to see if I can come up with a box for it tonight.
