Ready to go on a Sunday drive?

It seems to work just fine without any traffic rules ....

Having gotten older in the Wash DC region, I always ASSumed it was normal for all the over regulation of traffic they are so famous for, back in the 50-60's it was normal to go from red light to red light, all of them changing to red in front of you....if you go the speed limit, stopping every damn 2 blocks....

then a buddy got outta the Navy and wanted to go to Dallas/FW Tx......this was in 1970

So we went, and one of the first things was to get a Tx License, so we met this Tx trooper at the DMV, he hears we from Maryland, first thing he says....is in TEXAS, you better NOT RUN ANY RED LIGHTS, you will be killed, flat statement....reason why?? because they timed the lights to keep traffic MOVING, and move they did, one end of town to the other, 50 mph, commercial highway....it CAN be done.....

Being a junkyard hotrodder for some years, sure enough I go to the junkyards, and noticed something, most all the cars there were clobbered HARD, very few rusted/worn out.....

:hissyfit: guess the cop was right.....

:club:

Now upon going back to DC, I met my first ex wife, she lived in DC off Connecticut Ave NW....so leaving her place in early AM hours, heading outta DC to my place to get set for work, I would have open roads....speed limit 35 mph....do even close to that and stop every damn 2 blocks as the light turns red in front of me.....take it up to 60 mph, and all the lights were green, kept going.....:hissyfit::censored:

This is pretty much a repeat of a previous post. My wife's daughter in law and granddaughter arrived here from Bangkok. She, the DIL, is in her 40's, has a Thai drivers license, and has for many years driven in Bangkok. Without accidents as far as I know. I took her out for a test drive in my DD. To make this a short story, she was oblivious to Stop signs. At a four way Stop sign intersection, if there were no other cars, she'd blow through the Stop sign. Similarly making a right had turn against a red light (similar to a left hand turn in Thailand) she wouldn't make any pretense of stopping before making the turn. Basically speaking, she was not obeying any traffic rules, her driving was basically collision avoidance. I didn't want to ride with her any more...especially in my car. I signed her up with a driving school...after one ride, they didn't want to ride with her either. Through the network of Thai speaking people here in LA, we eventually lined her up with a Thai speaking driving instructor...who after several driving lessons lined her up with a Thai speaking Department of Motor Vehicles test driver. He flunked her for the first test, passed her on the second. She now has a Calif drivers license.

I sat in my car near an intersection in Little Saigon (Westminister, Orange County, California). I was waiting for my wife while she was visiting a Chinese jewelry shop. Almost all the drivers are Vietnamese immigrants. In a 20
minute period I was noticed quite a few near accident misses.

This behavior and the ethnicity relationship doesn't go unnoticed. I was driving North here on Hawthorne Blvd a couple of years ago on a Sunday morning and we were following someone driving a Bentley, the driver made several awkward lane changes and speed changes. My Thai wife asked.."Is that an Asian driving that car?"

Sad but soooo true.....:chinese:

I rode a Harley all over Thailand and in some years rode 100,000 kilos. You must never, I mean never take your eyes of the road and always plan that the bike or car in front of you doing some stupid move.

Please don't take offense, but it's known in the DC region as DWO

Driving While Oriental......:D

Back in the early 70s I lived in South Florida and many time some BWD (Belt Way Driver) would be in the passing lane on the high way and see the exit they want and just turn right in front of three lanes of fast moving cars without even a flasher on. :cussing:
