Removing doors for painting

OK, It looks as if I have to remove four bolts from each hinge inside the 81 doors to remove them.

Are these holes slotted for adjustment or will I be able to put them back in as built if I don't change the body shims?

Any other tips or tricks I should watch for? Doors will be painted when they go back on, as will the door frame.

Also going to replace hinge bushings on the driver door while it's off:bonkers:

On my '79 the door hinge bolt holes are slotted. I used a plastic milk crate under the door when it was open to support it. I thought I needed a hinge pin replacement but an adjustment was all it took.

Thanx Amigo,

I spray painted the bolt/hingearea just in case. Sunday afternoon I was looking at the panels to open so as to remove the wiring. That's about as far as I got. Next weekend I guess...

I'm going to remove my doors too, the area between door and fender needs paint... now that I have to paint the front surround anyways (front flares install) I might as well go the extra mile and take the doors off and do it right...

Now that I restore cars for a living, and do this daily, I can respond to a post like this.

Any holes you drill in the hinges for realignment will get you in the ballpark for when you reinstall the doors on the car. Even if you stick 1/8'' drill bits through these holes for realignment, the doors will not go back 100% the same way they were when they were originally bolted on the car before paint (unless you get extremely lucky when bolting the hinges back on). They will all need some refitting after the doors are reinstalled (messing around with the hinges that is).
