Anyone have experience with home retrofit elevators? Not the kind that are a seat atttached to a rail mounted to the side of a set of stairs, but the kind that has a small door and cage for 2 people or 1 person and a big dog. As I get older, I can't carry an old big dog up the stairs. A minature of the big elevators. Small dogs are not an option.
Brands?

Move to Florida my man, weather is nicer and houses are all on a slab.....

I'd be very interested in fail safe features. You don't want a failure with the elevator or local electrical power to cause you to be trapped in the elevator.

I get antsy just coming to my office on a weekend. I have to take an elevator. I just worry that the elevator will stop between floors and then the emergency phone might not work. If I were stuck in the elevator until Monday, I'd really freak out.

Battery sawzall, cphone and you are FREE....

:D

I like your thinking Gene ...that very action and the fire department has made me a lot of money over 25 years.

I can extract people from an elevator within 2 minutes on arrival. SAFELY I might ad.

Depending on what type of elevator you have hydraulic or a roped most buildings have emergency power in case of a power outage, but if you do not have a generator and have a hydro elevator we have a battery lowering unit that will lower the elevator to a terminal landing and open the doors and then shut down. If the elevator is shut down because its broken your stuck in the elevator until I show up or the fire dept comes and rips it apart.

PS... I haven't pulled a body out of an elevator yet.

Weirdest elevator system I ever rode on was in NY....I want to say Albany...not sure.....in the state office towers...Rockefeller Admin center??

anyway, it was some 30 floors up and change cars for another 5 floors for ME, but seeing some incredible count of 3 cars to get up to the top of the joint....

NOT ME....freeking hate tall anything, me good to 20' on a ladder...after that, better pull the guns, you all NEED them....
