what are your opinions on shift kits for turbo 350s. Mine is a 77 and I want more head snapping shifting. The transmission is a new rebuilt and is ok by any run of the mill standard, but will a shift kit make even better. If so your recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks, Jack

U need to find out from the builder if a shift kit WAS installed, and who's kit it was, if you sure it's all stock, I recommend a TRANS GO shift kit, I have used them in 350,400, 475?, 200 4r, 700 r4......and been very happy....

:D

TransGo has a good reputation. I am not sure what brand my shift kit was when I had a TH350, it was pretty much neck snapping if you ask me.... I hated it because it would ALWAYS shift hard no matter if you wanted it to or just cruise on the highway.... I fixed that with a TKO600, now my shifts are very smooth or hard - whatever I want :D

With the lockup converters on the o/drive trannies, IMO, it's a mess to have that converter prematurely locked up, and then upshift with a crack that even the motor home feels....8k GVW....

Should have felt that 400 in the goat shift, muvva ducker, with that 462 Pocho engine, that damn tranny slammed gears so hard, the silly car didn't know when to quit.....

a lazy man's stick shift....

Yep- Trans-Go or Gil Younger "Mr. Transmission" kit. the ones I've always used have the instructions for 3 levels, with the Level 3 being Police/Taxi. Calm and comfortable until you get after it, then it hits quite nicely.

I had the same problem with a TH350 trans and wanted harder shifts. If you pull the vacuum hose off the vacuum modulator, there is an adjustment screw down inside. The modulator is the disk shaped thing on the passenger side. You will need a small, straight tipped screw driver about four inches long to reach the adjustment screw inside. Turn the screw clockwise a couple turns and see if it accomplishes your goal. It did on mine with a significant improvement in shift response. One caveat, my trans had a fresh rebuild with a shift kit installed, but don't think it makes any difference.

That is one of the bugs my 700 in the vette had, a Superior/Fairbanks kit, by the builder, and it never did act right....I finally gave up and built a 200 4r for the vette, sold the 700 that was in it, and last year built a 700 with Trans Go kit for the Clamper project....and it acts nice and normal there....

I have always used TG, and had asked for a TG kit when he built that 700, when finding that Superior in there I was not happy, but it was too damn late by then.....

:hissyfit:

YES, that looks like the equivalent I got here for the Motorhome/camper last year, same looking box....

I THINK the supply shop I got it from with the rest of the parts, told me there was a larger one for the 700, but they only supplied the smaller one....

and I dunno anything current about the 350 kits today....been toooooo damn long....

but from all appearances, it's the one....

TimAT maybe knows more....

I've used that kit many times. Works very well. Make sure you drill the correct hole sizes in the spacer plate and use a much larger drill to deburr the holes. Be a biotch to get it all done and a chip break loose and hang a valve.
I use a pick after I get all the springs in the valve body to physically move all the valves to make sure they don't stick.
