I have a GM 10051107 BBC. This is an early 90's "Pro Stock" Bowtie block w/MKIV specs and siamesed bores. These basically made for drag racers and the guy I bought it from only used it for drag racing.
I bought it about 5 years ago and one of the questions I had was, since this is a siamesed bore, does it need steam holes for street use? At that time, I found (a little bit) of information that indicated that the material thickness in these blocks is sufficient to use without steam holes and that it is pretty much impossible to do anyway because of the configuration of the block. Most of this info came from offshore boat guys and so cooling problems are probably not a great concern.
This engine was installed in a buddies Camaro about 3 years ago but that car has not seen much stop and go street driving.
So, VetteModders, waddaya think? Steam holes, yes or no?
