So...what should I sell?

Hey guys, I figured this was the best place to ask this question, though if it belongs somewhere else, let it be moved.

As some of you know, I'm pulling my original (# matching FWIW) engine and trans out for an LS1/T56 conversion. I made some progress pulling various parts out of the engine bay and when I went to store them in my shed, I realized I have a bit of a problem. I have a lot of old parts from various projects. So that begs the question of what I should sell out of this engine swap and what should I keep. I'm keeping the engine since it is original, but what should be kept with the engine and what should go?
For example, what of the accessories? They all worked, but should they be kept with the engine? The Q-jet? I think it's original, not sure. Even the old 4 speed. Should that be kept with the car, just like the engine?

Any advice is is welcome.

If you can afford it, you should try to keep all of it together. If I kept all the original NCRS crap I tossed as a kid, I would be debt free by now. Food for thought.

I'm with B2B on this one. Anything you sell that's worth selling will hurt the long term value if you need to sell it later. The things that aren't worth keeping won't bring that much anyway.

I'm with the otheres.

Engine and trans have the VIN stamped on them. If they don't match your car, then it doesn't matter what you do with them. If they match, keep in case you ever decide to part with the car.

Qjets can be had for most of the vettes. Some years are more difficult. Like the 1970 which was a limited production year due to the union strike.. If yours is original and the part number matches, you might as well keep it with the engine.

Alternators can be had as well. However, an original alternator with the correct PN for my '70 LS5 would go for more than 800bucks to a purist.

Dist. can be found as well, but same story as above.

You would be amazed at what some people would pay for some of those parts. Think about 80 bucks for the oil pan drain bolt for a '70...yea kinda nuts, but I have seen them for that kind of stash on ebay.

Some people say that the rubber bumper cars are less desirable as collector cars and worth less.....but in 10 to 20 years, who knows!

JMHO

Very true guys. I see where you're coming from. This is why I wanted to ask and not just go off selling everything. Like I said, I planned on keeping the engine and the trans I was leaning towards keeping. So I'll keep most of the engine and trans related stuff. I was really hoping to get a green light on some of it to recoup some of the swap cost. Oh well.

I think I'll sell the fan shroud and power steering pump. I just got the pump as a rebuilt, so it really has no special or unique worth, but it is worth something today. Since it isn't original, I don't think I would be hurting sometime in the future if I needed any of this.

I could also make some room selling my old suspension stuff, haha. It's all in good shape except the bushings are all cracked up. The metal is in great shape though. Same with the sway bars and springs. However, the rear spring needs a refurbishment.
