Phil: Is that one of those Fiat Anglias??? They were popular to race back in the 50s-60s.

Ha ha, no the Anglia was a Ford model made in Britain. But they looked a bit similar....

I remember the Anglia well (sorry to hijack a thread but I haven't thought about this in years!) because I had a slot car with an Anglia body when I about 11 or 12 onto which I put big heavy rear wheels (from a Cox .049 gas racer '57 Chevy I had gotten from the NAPA parts store & crashed & destroyed). It looked like a farm tractor and didn't accelerate very fast, & very ass heavy, but as long as I stayed in the high lane, I could run faster than anybody else at top end because I could sling it out & rub the rear wheels on the wall around the banked corners to keep it in its slot. One day I was in the low lane and forgot--I charged into the big bank corner at full speed and the car whipped off the track, flew up and knocked out a ceiling tile. They had to get a ladder to retrieve my car from up in the ceiling. The body was shattered into a million pieces, but I got a standing ovation & they gave me a trophy!
10 or 12 years later I was back in the same place--it was an art supply store now, the slot car tracks were long gone, but I looked and sure enough there was the indent & mark my car had made on the ceiling tile, still there!

Wow what a blast from my past!:lol:

In the mid-late 60's Hank Lauderbach of N Carolina Jet Drive fame....a son of the founder, split off and opened a auto repair shop in Bethesda Md.....

he had a Chebby in a Anglia....he almost in the rear seat...had a power slide tranny....

well it was quite cammed up...idle like 1200 and rough at that....so that tranny naturally slipped into REVERSE on night....car too off out the garage door into the side of a customer's car....which he was already been called to pick UP.....
finished work....

SO a frantic call to the customer with parts confusion excuse, and a couple daze fixing the results of said Anglia.....

LONG time ago....:lol::lol::wink:
