Sombody needs to design a car jack that will actually work. With all the safety crap that they put into cars, apparently they don't care if the vehicle falls on you!

I had a flat tire yesterday in my Chevy Tahoe. I pull off the road onto a gravel area. I have never had a flat in this car so I had no idea what the jack looked like until I pulled it out of its compartment. I couldn't believe it. It was a scissors jack with a base on it a little bit largere than a pack of cigarettes! I had absolutely nothing to use to chock the wheels. So I crank this jack up unlil the tire is just barely off the ground. The jack is extended as far as it will go and it looks like the car is held up by a 2x4. What happened? You guessed it, the fucking jack flops over (luckily the flat was still on it).

Thats the best design they can come up with?

I feel you pain. I have a one ton dually. The jack that came with that is a screw jack that's stamped sheet metal and about 2 inches in diameter. And it's supposed to lift that rear axle so you could change the inside tire. I don't think so. But there are a pair of stamped sheet metal chocks that came with it.

Linda is a member of AAA, for a reason, if that motor home ever has a flat, it's over rover, their problem, and ours....:surrender::twitch::suicide:

cars are designed by bean counters, as long as it sort of works on a GOOD day..... thats all that counts.

There, fixed it 4 U....

from the comments, it seems BMW is taking a huge bath on quality and cost of repairs here recently...getting worse over time, and many owner going AUDI??

a VW??

Gene my BIL (wifes sisters husband) is a service writer at a big Audi dealership....don`t even think Audi unless it`s got a factory warranty.

Hate to have to say this, but anything European has been really LO on my list, not that it matters much....not in the new car anything market anyway....

so I guess it's Japan/Korea and now CHINA....

Well, at least you have a jack, and a spare. My c6 has neither. Origionally had run flat tires, now regular tires and a 12v air compressor and a plug kit. I also have a couple of cans of fix a flat, but I'll only use them in a extream emergency, as it will probably screw up the internal air pressure monitor.
AAA is your friend.

My friend is that 2 ton floor jack I've got in the back. I don't put the tops in there anyway, got the luggage rack mounts, and with the tool bag and stereo there was no room.

They could improve things by making the base wider from front to back of the car instead of the opposite (wider from side to side). The car can roll but it usually dosen't move side to side.

Or, how about putting some kind of receiver on the frame rail so the jack can't fall over, duh!
