I was experiencing some vibrations, that after some testing convinced me were in the engine/clutch flywheel. So I decided it was time to do some work on it and take out the trans. I was also hoping that I could change the oil pan gasket as this had some weeping spots and at the same time close some gap in the baffling that possibly contributed to a high rpm pressure drop.

Ok, then the problems start.
- turned out that in my body off, I put the bolt of the transmission member in the wrong way. so on the pass side I couldn't get it out and had to hand cut the damn bolt in 2.
- Got the trans out and found out that the shoulders of the bolts on my pp were only protruding through the pp and not into the flywheel properly locating the pp. I think this is what caused the vibration. On top of that, I discovered that some of the bolt holes on the otherwise fine clutch pp were enlarged, which means i need a new clutch.
- Getting the pan off, was worse than I assumed. I run a Canton RR pan with kickouts and I couldn't get to the bolts behind the starter. I also run headers, so taking the starter out and leaving the headers in place, meant that I had to remove it from the flywheel side. Luckily the trans and bellhousing were already out. However, had to loosing the steering rack to lower the pan enough to squeeze out.
- then the threads of the smaller bolt of my starter turned out to be stripped. Got the wire off but I'll have to get a shop to change the bolt.

argh.

- I did a trial fit to establish that the pickup to pan distance was still ok. Boy what mess trying to get that one piece rubber gasket to stay in place when putting the pan on her from the underside.

Oh well..

Needless to say I was swearing my ass of under there.

You are certainly not the 1st to put the crossmember bolts in the wrong way around only to find out they git the floor pan when you try to take them out. I've seen it a few times over the years in resto pics. Same for the rear shock upper bolts.

The 1pc gasket should come with plastic dowels to keep it in place for the install. Ddi you toss those?

Actually haven't seen those. I need to recheck the package again I guess, but I cannot remember seeing them in the package.

Ok, checked that, but I've found nothing.

So that are some sort of dowel that would be place in the bolt holes and keeps the gasket put ? How does the pan then slide over those ?
