I live on a hillside with about 30' elevation, driveway is about 8' high than downhill side of house, at end of my street is a T into another road with about 30 houses on it that flood 3x since I been here in '97, never buy a house at bottom of the hill....well that swamp behind those houses have all sorts of wildlife including gators, of course.....they call it a 'Bird Sanctuary'...yeh, right, it's a SWAMP the homes never flooded for years, built early 70's like mine....but ensuing construction in the area has turned them into a flood zone....I reply to guys asking about moving to Florida, giving the inns/outs about what.....to look out for....flooding is a biggie, friends with a house not but a mile away, heavy rains, and their street is over a FOOT deep, not reached the house yet.....I would have never guessed it being that bad....

There are native Floridians? I thought everyone just moved there.

HEHEE.....I met my wife here long about '99 having moved here in '97.....she was technically BORN in Alabama, but they moved back to Jax Florida decades ago, so between 3 kids and a hubby who didn't care, she never had a chance to travel much of anywhere.....and see this country.....

we were dating yet, I heard that, and we went to WASH DC, first stop in town....ARLINGTON and changing of the guard..... next was a super quick overview of the Fed Triangle....to you outta towners, that means WH/Cap/Monuments/SC......then off to recoup at some old friend's house....
next day, we go to the METRO....subway, she never been on a subway in her life....they don't build that shit on this sandbar....at first she was scared shitless....but we got on board way out, and it pops up/down through various station at 80 mph, she scared to pieces at first....tunnel lights flashing by like streaks.....so we walk through all the downtown sites.....and at night also, to see the unique lighting....too bad the Wash Monument was closed or she could have seen that too, ME, I good to 20' after that, its instant heart attack at my age......but we saw all the monuments, including WW2 under construction and Veit Nam Wall......

On the way home I asked her what was the most impressive sight she saw on the trip....

one work reply.....ARLINGTON, changing of the Guard..... I have two relatives there.....

few years later we flipped out to see my sis in Santa Fe NM......drove out to see Grand Canyon, THAT freaked me out....I only good to maybe 15' from the railing....but it was still a great trip, having seen Painted Desert, Meteor Crater, Petrified Forest and many Indian attractions....shops where we bought them out, her Father is at least part Native American......

Other trips not as memorable, but she really scared of caves....so we went to LURAY Caverns off I81....plus a bunch of old friends in the DC region...all of us near age 70 now.....

Went to DFW Tx. maybe 6 years ago, to see an old buddy from '60 yet, he was my oldest friend from Ham Radio/Electronic in HS.....so the 4 of us took off to San Antonio and did the river walk, and so a 4.1 meg camera took a shot of a bridge ....she got a book keeping client of hers to blow it up to 2'x3' size, and not ONE mega pix is evident.....unbelieveable....at 10 megs you can print a BILLBOARD!!!!

We trying to flip she and me out to see my grandson in Ca. and from there to her Great Grandkids in Seattle....time and tough scheduling though...so many job/family commitments....

SO the little flatlander Florida gal got to see underground, mountains, monuments for real, and shit, and I have been wanting to see Key West since I been here so she repays me with a trip last April to KW, and it was a ten day BLAST.....

With regards to the golf ball hunter. This guy is not going to be a replacement for Steve Irwin, the Australian Crocadile Hunter.

I really hated it when Steve was killed by the Manta Ray.

This Florida reptile was an alligator. Possibly not quite as dangerous as a crock. It's amazing that in Florida, you can see these things in so many public places. Keeps the stray dog and cat population down. Maybe if you imported some Alligators to Thailand, the stray dog population would decrease..opps..alligators are good eating..forget that idea.

When I first go here, some friends wanted me to try some gator....it was tough like leather, very hard to chew, and not worth the bother, far as I could tell....tried several pieces.....
