Ok...so I was thinking about another RestoMod. C3 with modern drive train this time. What would a totaled out 2002 Z06 with 79xxx miles be worth for the drive train? Interior seems ok but the car has damage on every corner and side. I have located a guy within an hour of me who has one. I think he wants around 5 grand. Would it be worth it for the drive train components? He said it was running after the wreck and he had to turn it off. I told him I would have to hear the car running before investing in it. Your thoughts?

I agree with having to hear it first. If it runs good and he can guarantee the trans is good as well, I'd say it's worth it. I'd still do some negotiating and try to get as cheap as I could.

The engine alone is worth $5000. They are something like $13,000 new.
Keep in mind you can buy that whole car in good shape for about $23,000.

This would be the LS6...right?

Yep:cool::cool:

Saw one in the middle of the state about 8 months ago go for a little over three grand, I think, rolling chassis with computer etc, everything to make it run. Low miles too.
Seriously thought about it, great deal, but I couldn't fit that into the schedule.

Just for comparison.

I paid $1000 for my Ls6 short block from a fellow CF member who was putting a 427 C5R in his Z. The short block had 15k miles on it and was running. I bought a set of decent heads for $1500, cam for $325, and you can buy an intake, throttle body, MAF, and the other misc parts pretty cheap on eBay. I paid $100 for a used PCM. and about $600 for a Harness.

If the front suspension on the Z is decent you can use that but sounds like it's probably not usable. C5 front suspension parts are readily available (piles of them at Carlisle). Beyond that, maybe the seats with the tracks removed or modded or the wheels/tires if decent, there is little in the Z that you can use.

If you bought the Z for 5k and yanked the motor and PCM you could probably part the rest out but will have some work to do. Point is you could end up with a decent motor but there is little else you will need from the Z.

You don't think the 6 speed tranny could be used?

No. The transmission is rear mounted in C5's and C6's. Entirely different animal. Mounts to the Torque tube which runs down the middle of the car. More like a Transaxle with diff mounted to it.

This is the whole shabang:

And this is the Tranny/Diff

I could have used that, and the front & rear irs too :D Nothing a little chopping won't fix.
