I'm installing a C4 spare tire bucket due to interference issues with the stock C3 bucket and the C4 suspension under my '69. The C4 bucket looks like it's going to clear the toe rods and mufflers, and still be able to contain a spare or flat tire. My original bucket is stored out of state with relatives, so I can't weigh it, but the C4 bucket (without hanger bolts) is 7 1/2 pounds on my Harbor Freight digital scale. Just curious what the original bucket (without bolts, if possible) weighs in comparison. Anyone got one laying around that they could weigh?

Thanks,
Mike

I am completely serious on this one. I haven't had a spare tire on my car in 3 years. I run 4 good tire and have a 50 mile tow policy. Tire blowouts really aren't that common with the newer tires and if one blows out it will need to be replaced anyways. So I figure if I am within 50 miles from home the rollback can take me home and if I am farther than that they can tow me to the nearest tire store.

Like I said not being a smart ass just throwing out an idea. Besides IMHO C3 Vettes look better with no spare tire and the rear suspension showing.

why not use one of those small spare wheel and build a rack out of fiberglass to fit in the area you have?

I have not had a spare under there for some years now, like Fuelie, and have thought about that mini spare setup also....but never did anything....

I have a OEM stock spare for sale if anyone wants it....

I drive my 68 without a spare tire carrier also.

Without the spare tire carrier, the underneath of the rear of the car is about as streamlined as a cookie cutter. One thing I would do if my concern were higher on my priority list, is to add a flat panel underneath the car with the -panel mounting up to the bottom of the rear license plate valance panel and the lower parts of the rear quarter panel. Must be a lot of air turbulance and drag with the spare tire carrier missing.

I don't run the spare on my '72 either. I figure the last thing I want to do if I have a blowout is use the original bias ply spare that's almost 40 years old.
