Got them from Summit and made my brake bleeding job very easy. I can kick myself for not getting them sooner. I even puchased the speed bleeder bag, and think it made the job even easier. Anyone else have the same good fortune? Jack

I have NEVER had any problem bleeding brakes, no matter which fluid, until maybe 5? years ago here, on my '72...I just left open one caliper at a time, and drilled a small hole in the steel top of the m/cyl cover, blasted air in there forcing the rubber top seal down into the proper section, then let it relax, and closed the caliper, refill, repeat....done....

some time later, I changed the m/cyl yet again, and had no trouble at all....

so go figger....I been using DOT 5 in this car since I had it...16 years now....

:smash::twitch:

Too cheap to buy them. See my tech tip about one man brake bleeding. Takes longer, but even cheaper than the speed bleeders.

I used DOT 5 (silicone) in my 68. I just used gravity bleeding and got a pretty good pedal. It was a little bit soft however, but still very driveable. I took my 68 to Guldstrand Motorsports for an alighnment and asked them to bleed the brakes. I've read complaints were people have said that silicone produces a soft pedal. Not the case here now, stepping onto the brake pedal of my DOT 5 68 is like stepping onto a rock.

Before switching to DOT 5, everything in my brake system was all new and all dry; MC, SS brake lines and new brass distribution junctions, new MC distribution fitting, all new SSBC aluminum brake calipers.

I heard/read about speed bleeders but never bought them.... personally I believe in pressure bleeding, same as gravity bleeding but quicker.... apply positive pressure to the reservoir side instead of suction to the caliper side... never had a problem in over 20 years (yes, I'm getting old)...
:lol:

All what you had, and still I felt my pedal was worse than average for a GM car, van/truck....just too much travel always felt squishy/muddy...

then I put on Hydroboost, shark does a nose stand now, it actually WANTS to stop, not set there saying 'gee do I have to, daddy??'.....

:rofl::crutches:

i have never used the speed bleeders but i am not opposed to rying something new so maybe one day when i have an extra $60 burning a hole in my pocket i may pick them up from the local autozone store, i guess the only think i need to figure out is the diameter and thread size

For $60.00, you get 4 speed bleeders, and they are stuck on that car. For $80.00, you get a Motive Power pressure bleeder, and you can bleed all the cars you want in a few minutes each.
I use the crap out of my pressure bleeder all the time doing brake jobs for friends.:)

thks i think thats what they cost at auto zone, i will check the thread size for exact pricing next time i go. bob
