I have my TT column apart on my 74 and the upper bearing support has a tilt pin hole badly worn. Is it possible to repair this or do I have to by a new one? I have been looking, but it doesn't look like they reproduce this part.

Lower tilt bowl. I hazard a guess and say that it's not a Corvette specific part. Like other things, I just can't see GM making everything Corvette as a "1-off". Jim Shea will have that answer for certain.

I am pretty sure the part is generic between tilt columns and T&T columns. Also generic between Corvettes and all the other GM tilt and T&T columns from that same time frame.

BTW, I answered the question on finding a source for a replacement part on two other forums. I really don't have the time to answer the same question over and over again. Please search out the answer on one of the other forums.

You can get this part from Tom at Corvette Steering.

I just bought one myself. It was @$90 so not cheap, but it is critical to tighten up the column.

I just talked to Tom, while $90 isn't cheap it really isn't that bad considering its an NOS part and the aftermarket doesn't make it. The only two options I have is buy a used column or rebuild mine and for the cost of another column I can have mine as good as new. Not a bad route, so I am buying that along with the rest of the parts I need to freshin up my column.

I really didn't think this part was available new and would be forced to try and repair it. I still might see about getting my old lower tilt bowl pin holes sleeved and shelf the part for future needs. I figured I would find someone that has tried to have one sleeved in the past and that I could learn form their trials.

Fuelie, was it just vertically loose?? on the wheel...or side to side/laterally too??

mine is loose vertically, but NOT side to side...been this way for some 15 years, couldn't really find the reason, the 4 bolts are secure for sure....

It was loose kind of up and down, but seemed more like it was loose at a 45 deg angle because only the left side pin hole was bad. It wasn't loose side to side or in and out. If you disassemble your column and have this problem it will jump out at you because the pins will basically fall out.
