Street Shop at Bloomington Gold

speaking of Bloomington how was the swap meet? lots of vendors or lots of empty spots (or vendors cars parked in vending spaces making it look full)??

I think the swap meet gets smaller every year. I probably wouldn't have gone this year except that I was in Chicago on business anyway. I think the big event is the auction which I didn't stick around for. I do enjoy the Gold Mine area (cars for sale). Here's one you may be familiar with.

He said he buys them brand new for $25,000. Add another $5,000 for peripherals to make it run.

I used to look forward to the Bloomington swap meet every year, and went for the better part of twenty years, but finally said to hell with them when the cost of gas (from Indiana) and entry fee was more than I could recover by getting some some decent deals on stuff. Of course, when the swap area is half the size it used to be, it's darn hard to find a lot of deals. One of my favorite (used parts) vendors told me the cost of space there kept going up and it just wasn't worth his time and effort to keep going back.

I understand the point of the custom (and probably expensive) batwing (I had to modify mine), but what am I missing with (the trouble and expense of) the billet trailing links? Is there a reason other than bling?

I asked why the billet batwing. He said the high horsepower motors were tearing up the stockers. I imagine the same holds true for the dog bones.

I was a vendor in St Charles for the first three years they were there, first year in one space I sold about $5000 worth of stuff, the next year in three spaces I did about $3500, the third year in the same three spaces I did about $2000...see a trend?? I did and that was it for me, this year I didn`t even go to walk around.... that last year was also the year I took a #351 bare block out of a 67 427/435hp Corvette...my daughter is watching my stuff and a couple of guys (experts) ask how much? she says "6"...they say "six hundred??"....I later sold that block to a restorer (sight unseen) for $6K...
between ebay and "greed" the once great Bloomington swap meet is DEAD...just like Vettefest and Chevy Vettefest.....

I too attended Bloomington on a regular basis prior to it moving out of Bloomington Ill. That was before the internet when us average Joe's would go together on a slot and haul our spare parts up in the back of a pickup or on our car trailers. Attended one or two times when it was held in Springfield. Never been to one held in St. Charles Ill.....and most likely never will. It's just not "Bloomington" to me and should have changed the name. I think the original sponsors had a falling out way back when.

I thought you might want to see what Street Shop brought to Bloomington Gold this year.

What I find remarkable is that, aside from the engine, these really look very much like our frames and drivetrains. More of an evolution than revolution.

Again, the engine aside but even that doesn't look radically different. TT is right too. It really does look small.
