The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering 2013
One of the highlights of Monterey Car Week every year is The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering. Held at The Quail Lodge and Golf Club in Carmel, California for the past 11 years, “The Quail,” as the Gathering is known, is a one-day classic car show, gourmet food event and social happening all in one. Managed by The Peninsula Signature Events, The Quail features an array of vintage automobiles, one-of-a-kind race cars, exclusive exotics and even motorcycles, displayed across the greens beside the Quail Lodge. A limited number of $400 tickets are sold — just 3,000 this year — which keeps the event from getting overrun with crowds, and ensures that just about everyone who attends is somewhat invested in the experience. The 2013 event took place on Friday, August 16 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
With a self-selecting group of well-heeled automotive enthusiasts on hand, premium carmakers can’t resist the opportunity to sponsor the event and to display their latest wares. Supercar makers like Lamborghini, Ferrari and McLaren had booths with new cars, and luxury makers from Cadillac and Lincoln to Audi , Porsche, Bentley, Land Rover and Jaguar competed for attention.
General Motors stole center stage with a rolling parade of Corvettes from every era, led by Jay Leno and GM Vice President of Global Design Ed Wellburn, driving a brand new C7 Corvette. The roar of the V8 engines filled the air as the classic Corvettes took the field.
Plan ahead for next year’s event, which will take place on Friday, August 15, 2014.
