TV works in the power generation industry, I forget EE or ME...anyway, I have tiped from time to time about a very old case that had my silly little security systems manufacurer totally mystified as to why our gear would go random alarms at Duke Power in Carolina somewhere, all I remember is the terrain was very hilly....it was walk through metal detectors we made....
so after everyone in the world looked at it, being field tech rep I was last to leave the plant, and begged the plant head engineer to CALL me if they ever figgered out what it was.....
about a year later, I get this call.....he reintro'd himself, and some jokes and conversation later I asked what's up?? he said the plant wasn't grounded, I asked if that wasn't one of the things we checked in the main box...that the gear was grounded??
he says I din't understand...the whold frucking control room bulding/plant was not grounded.....I went silent, and he askes if anyone there?? I say yes, but you GOTTA be shittin me....which is something I would NEVER SAY TO ANY CUSTOMER...NORMALLY, we cracks up, and so I asked the obvious question....how do you ground a power plant??
he said call in the well digger from hell, drill a pipe to China, stick a nut on either end of it, tell the Chinese to please don't touch.....
I wrote up the conversation, Stan the VP of sales, calls the customer for verification, yeh, well no shit, sherlock.....duh....I would too, no sweat....
So Jim/TV swear it not true, all I know is that our gear was cleared of any defects, and what that man said on the phone.....
:shocking: for that matter, all power plants are 3 phase delta, as I recall, so in fact, it would be a simple thing to overlook.....stacks of drawings a mile thick for a project that size....someone ASSumed the other guys grounded it, and so....details....
