10:08 MDT and it's still there--I'd post a reply of "Huh?" except whenever I sign back on to post on CF anymore the spam count on my computer skyrockets for a few weeks....

(Ah what the hell--here goes--)

10:30 here.

Weird thing is, the thread was there a little while ago, turtle was the last to respond (whine) so those mods must be up late.

What was it about? Looks like I missed a good party.

I forget the OP's handle, but he posted a direct link here as being a better spot, and so maybe two comments, one of them being about it not lasting long, then TV's comment about him band here, and we being too PC or something, then I may have replied something, but too busy laughing, and trying to not wake the wife up.....as a few of you know I can guffaw pretty good sometimes.....:yahoo:

then it was gone.....Between reading first time, and TT noticed it was gawn...about 45 minits....

TV works in the power generation industry, I forget EE or ME...anyway, I have tiped from time to time about a very old case that had my silly little security systems manufacurer totally mystified as to why our gear would go random alarms at Duke Power in Carolina somewhere, all I remember is the terrain was very hilly....it was walk through metal detectors we made....

so after everyone in the world looked at it, being field tech rep I was last to leave the plant, and begged the plant head engineer to CALL me if they ever figgered out what it was.....

about a year later, I get this call.....he reintro'd himself, and some jokes and conversation later I asked what's up?? he said the plant wasn't grounded, I asked if that wasn't one of the things we checked in the main box...that the gear was grounded??

he says I din't understand...the whold frucking control room bulding/plant was not grounded.....I went silent, and he askes if anyone there?? I say yes, but you GOTTA be shittin me....which is something I would NEVER SAY TO ANY CUSTOMER...NORMALLY, we cracks up, and so I asked the obvious question....how do you ground a power plant??

he said call in the well digger from hell, drill a pipe to China, stick a nut on either end of it, tell the Chinese to please don't touch.....

I wrote up the conversation, Stan the VP of sales, calls the customer for verification, yeh, well no shit, sherlock.....duh....I would too, no sweat....

So Jim/TV swear it not true, all I know is that our gear was cleared of any defects, and what that man said on the phone.....

:shocking: for that matter, all power plants are 3 phase delta, as I recall, so in fact, it would be a simple thing to overlook.....stacks of drawings a mile thick for a project that size....someone ASSumed the other guys grounded it, and so....details....

Oh, alright then. Not really my business so I'll stay out of it.

I'm not really sure what that all has to do with the price of rice in China, but TV is in the power industry as well? Who isn't in this forum???

Anyways, I don't know if I could believe the WHOLE plant wasn't grounded. From what I understand (the 'electric' part of the power plant isn't my deal, only really the thermal parts) that's a pretty serious overlook. I've heard of poor grounds and the alike, but it never forgotten altogether.

NOT my project, ain't MY ball of wax, all I can state is the truth of the happening that has us ALL mystified down to a year later getting THAT call, to a tech head like me, it was the most outstanding call of my life....left me scratching my ass for sure.....

I remember asking him HOW they ever found it....he said one of the guys was late for work one morning, and had to park on the 5th floor DOWN underground in the parking lot, near/under the main control complex and our security gear of course....so he had a bad exhaust pipe, lays down on the concrete, and reaches up to touch his own car, the very one he just got OUT OF....and gets the living shit burned outta his arm/hand from the shock....they got him outta there via the parameds and guards/etc.....but in the meantime....some serious questions our gear was pointing to asking, were finally ASKED....

:flash: pardon ME, but that's the truth from my end of things, it is the shituation as explained to ME.....and Stan in marketing, and of course our company owner a PHD EE, so go figger....
