Yesterday I saw an ad on TV for Toyota touting their new "Star" five point safety system but they did not specify what it was.

I suppose it consists of 5 microphones placed strategically in the passenger cabin that would pick up the screams of the terrified occupants and automatically disengage the engine and apply the brakes....

I saw that too. Not sure what it is but they tell you to go to their website. My guess is their figuring ABS and traction control to be a couple "stars", plus whatever else they have, airbags, etc.
Just them trying to dig themselves out of this bad PR rep they found themselves in over the last year.

I say 'Learn to DRIVE' or DIE.....

there is a limit to fail safe engineering in a lazy consumer MASS PRODUCED environment....:hissyfit:

I saw the same during the game and told my wife, "What kind of commercial is that?" Why should I go to the web site when they could have said it right there on national TV?

Maybe we can guess?
1-seat belts.
2-safety glass.
3-outside rear view mirrors.
4-padded dash.
5-dual circuit brakes.

Boy did I just date myself.

#4, I haven't seen a new car in many years with a padded dash, think my 87 C4 is the last one I can remember.

I think that padded dashes were much more important when part of the safety system was you slamming against that padded dash in a crash. Air bags make that pretty pointless as would decent seatbelts.
