Do you need to loosen the trailing arm bolt to change shims (to change alignment) or can the shims be taken out without loosening the front bolt ?

Thanks

The older C3 shims were not sloted. Bolt needed to be taken out. If your talking about your 79, if there not corroded, loosening the nut and removing the cotter key might work....if your luky:nuts:

I take that as a no. Damn, but as everything else on the car, I will have to find a way to get a decent grip on the bolt and nut.

the bolt and nut are easy.... compared to what it takes to get those stupid shims out

and you wouldn't believe the amount of work it took to get to this point. I pulled the cotter pin, then used a chisel to knock the shims up (so they don't catch on the bottom edge). Liberal amounts of penetrating fluid was used. I almost went and bought a hydraulic wedge to push the bits apart....

oh yeah, and in my case, the bolt rusted solidly to the inside of the bushing - necessitating pulling the shims then cutting the bolt on either side. I tried cutting with the shims in place, but the moment the shim loosened, it'd move and no sawing would take place

but I'm sure yours is a rust-free Belgian Corvette - so I'm certain it'll be a piece of cake

as said above, simple answer is yes.......

this the Vette that you just re-assembled ? I wouldn't think you have rust on that one..... if this about another Vette and if you find a lot of rust then save yourself some trouble, get a sawzall and cut thru the shims and the bolt

It's on the restored one. No rust. That's not the issue. Tight space is. Never did it with the body on.
