two tone car codes?

My 82 was originally white I believe, however I really like the looks of the white over silver two tones. Could anyone easily tell if it was never a two tone? or does it really matter.

I'de like to do that two tone combination but use 81 silver interior since I dont like the 82 grey interior.

There's a U and L code on the trim tag, 2 tones have different paint #s for upper and lower.
