I'm repainting the mouldings of my car. I have a question about the upper reveal moulding (the upper moulding of the windscreen). there are several U-type clips that have a hole on the bottom to put a screw through. On the sides these are attached to the side chrome corner mouldings, but in the middle : are the screwed in the header bar ? I don't see any holes in my header bar and the AIM seems to indicate (not sure) that the clips are just put on the T-top moulding and the reveal moulding is clipsed into it.

Yes, there are holes... but it could be that your windshield is glued over them or is the screen out? I had to take my windshield out to get at those damned clips.

For the love of God, never ever put a clear email on a public forum.:trumpet:
It's like spending the night in a gay bar looking for lost change on the floor.

Are these the ones? I can forward them to you if they are what you need. Email me Eric Brandt zeohsix @ gmail.com you or Marck might have to pay me back by dealing with a German on Ebay.de for my Vanagon Syncro parts I need. Paypal account is same as Email address.

Thanks. I already have a new set here.

Just would like to know if I need to put them on with screws in the metal header. There don't seem to be any original holes there and my aim for the 79 doesn't give any more info to them....:sos:

I think there are two versions of the clips originally. Screwed in for early C3's and something else for later. The screw in ones are the only ones available now (at least from Paragon).

These cars never seem to agree on anything when looking at them from one year to another. :smash: I think I will have to drill those holes as they are not there.

Any idea how deep from the top of top header L-profile it should be drilled ? I don't want to put them to deep, to find out that the moulding will hold in them.

IMO, I took out all the clips and junked them years ago, I wrapped my convertible '72 stainless header with vinyl, so it did not leak.....so the edge of the vinyl had to be buried under that stainless strip....so out it came, vinyl glued down, and so to hold the strip in place, I back filled the entire gap with a tube of black RTV and held the stainless in place with tape and a few clamps let cure overnight, guaranteed rust/water PROOF.....same with sides too.....

I remember reading something about silicone not being good to prevent rust. Forgot exactly what the reason was.
