This maybe difficult to measure, but I would like to know the distance from the valve covers (highest inside corner) to the flat part of the hood and to the bulge.

Thanks

Yves

Thats difficult to say. The dimension is greater at the back of the valve covers. I have pretty good dimensions from the lifter valley for a big block w/bb hood if that helps

I would say the front of the valve cover.

I think a big block is way different, but nonetheless : was that from the bridge between the banks to the hood ?

Get a seal bag, put expanding foam in it and close the hood.....

I don't know if this will help much. This is a BB and a BB hood. You may be able to get the (difference in BB and SB) dimesions from the Chevy Power book.

Thanks. Seems like the total engine height of the BB and SB is about the same.

If I'm not mistaken, your measuring the height to the front of the engine

BBShark, sometime I wonder if you don't have the whole car in CAD files

Glad he does. Makes estimating things a whole lot easier. Fortunatly we have this forum.

However, it doesn't solve my problem. I was planning on building an airbox over the valve covers in which the stacks end up and mounting a filter there. The smallers cylindrical filter I found having the required 3,5" intake has an outside diameter of 4" and doesn't fit. Now I will probably need to mout everything in the middel on top of the engine. Luckily I have an L88 hood. BRRR...

Filter over the valve covers, not the best place to keep air cool. Why don't you go catch air in front of the radiator, like C5/C6?

That's what I did with my TPI/LT1 conversion, but a casualty of that was to reverse hinge the hood.....:shocking::harhar:

The filters are inside an airbox, they take air from the original cold air intake of a 79.

The C5/C6 system has the filters in front of the rad. Since the hood goes open towards the front and the front piece of the hood comes real close to the rad in that position, it's not practical unless you convert to rear hinges like Gene did. Besides, I have my oil cooler already sitting up there.

Maybe someone here could put some thin alu foil on top of their valve covers and measure the clearance.

Well, I got some measurements from someone over at CF.

Anyway, have plans to construct and air box that covers the stacks from the crossram. Was making the baseplate and had to make 4 big holes in an 2 mm alu plate to get the stacks thru. Mayor PITA. Tried this with a hole saw. Oh boy, couldn't get the damn thing to keep the center.... fucked up 4 alu plates trying so far.
