originally a 68 427/400hp wrecked in the very early 70`s and rebuilt with this custom front & rear body, an all aluminum LS7, and a fully chromed suspension (what can I say it was in the pre NCRS era) sold in 1982 and not driven much since then.....whats it worth?? thanks in advance!

I like the front end. Don't think i"ve seen headlights done like that before.

So a aluminum LS-7 would be like a 454 version of the ZL-1?

BTW...this thread might make a nice "reunion" thread for the old timers to post to.:) Most of the newbs at CF don't have the foggiest idea what a ZL-1 is or how it performs. And the "restoration" people are all lowballing it's worth. If this thing is an original ZL-1 engine with the proper equipment, then dragstrip times should be in the 11s for sure. Maybe even 10s. I couldn't care less if the front end is the bogus one that Mark Hammil had in "Corvette Summer" (YUCK!!!!) if it turns those times.

So it's a ZL-1 block with LS-7 internals and iron (iorn) heads? I'll guess that the ZL-1 block adds $3K to a $8K-12K car. So $11-15K depending on condition.

I can bear the body. But too many mods to the engine for my taste. An original ZL-1 in un-modded condition and he could have sold the engine and bought another car with the cash. I agree with Howards quote now. That may even be too high. I sure wouldn't buy it without driving it first.

The front almost looks like a motion car. If he got panels from Motion, it might be worth a bit more. 5 years ago, he'd have done a lot better on price, lots of bargains around now.

I think the motor is still worth at least 5k and in the other thread the potential buyer said a little work and he will be able to show it again. So I think 15k or a bit more is fair.

Unless you actually tear down the motor, you have no idea what is inside of it. And unless you actually drive the car, you have no idea of it's a rat or a rocket.

Any cars value is based on how badly the person looking at it wants it and how long the person selling it wants to wait. I really hate that since the advent of the "auction" shows like Barret-Jackson and Mecom the only cars of any value are completely "original" cars. I personally have never owned a car that I haven't customized in some way, and I always feel I make them better. Here on a forum that cherishes modification it would be great to see a cars value increase depending upon the improvements made to the car. That's not to say every change is considered an improvement to everyone but hopefully some of the people will embrace the changes. It sounds like most of the comments here are geared toward parting out the car for the engine or the body work. Take into account the time the car was modified and look at it as a time capsule of what was "cool" to someone at that time. Good luck with the sale (if that is the intent) otherwise drive the car and enjoy it!

Have you actually been watching the auctions lately? Outside of the really rare stuff, the well-done restomods are bringing better money than anything else.

~5 years ago at the Kisseemee/Orlando Florida NCRS meet, I noted that the resto mods/updates in the sale area next to the judging area, were pulling asking prices of 130k PLUS.....C1 all updated and modern....several of them...GREAT LOOKING cars....not some damn batman aftermarket bullshit...like you see at auctions....

history demonstrated about other makes/eras of cars has told me this WILL happen to Corvette also....one reason I did not care a whit damn about NCRS in doing my car....

Call it a later version of a T bucket if you will, but it's value will go up as the old resto farts die off or no longer CARE because they are all on the market now, soon enough.....
