Years ago I contracted a fiberglass guy I knew to do some work on a hood I had. I don't want to go through the long, drawn out story so this is the abbreviated version. Anyway, it took a couple years for him to get it close to the finished product (figure about 80%) but then he changed jobs followed by a sudden, severe illness stopped all work in it's tracks. During that job change, I lost track of the guy and only found out about the illness second hand well after the fact. I did not know where he was or the hood was.
About 10 minutes ago the widow of the guy calls me to tell me she has the hood and asks if I still want it. Of course I do. She tells me that her son (who worked with the dad) says the value of the work, even incomplete, was worth $350. The problem is that the original deal, verbal of course, was for $300 for the completed project.
She's already mentioned that she would be willing to work on the price since she needs to move and the medical bills financially ruined her.
So, I query you, would you offer $300 and take the incomplete hood? Or would you go lower?
I'm a little conflicted (hence, why I'm posting here), I am empathetic to her plight, but the man and I had a deal. What say you?
