I need to add precats to a 1982 pipe that is identical to the one pictured. The precats will be added between the red marks. Is there anything on a 1982 in this specific area that will cause issues ????

these are the size of the precats

Heat will be an issue- right there on either side of the trans, under your feet. Might be a bit much. Under your feet you can probably insulate for. What gets radiated to the sides of the trans might be tough.

well one way or another I have to get them placed in that area. I believe my 82's floor is metal so maybe rivet on some heat shields.

Thanks Jeff, if I google "Magnaflow 2.5" Catalytic", then they'll fit? What I come up with is UNIVERSAL-FIT 2.5" CATALYTIC CONVERTER
PART# 99006HM at around $68.00 each Amazon, or $106.09 at Summit Racing.

I already have the 90 magnaflow exhaust system that has about 4 hours of run time on it. Basically just going to graft the precats to to the 82 pipe and use the stock style 82 cat converter since it is new. Then use the 90 stainless LT1 tipped mufflers for my exhausted system.

Have all the parts on my donor 90 Vette. And all the exhaust is California compliant

Just as a bit of information, the magnaflow high flow cats on my daily driver caused me to fail my emissions test in Canada. Believe it or not they're about a year old. Is this the life expectancy from a Magnaflow high flow cat? The tech told me that Magnaflow cats are higher in quality and should normally last maybe 2 years before failing an emissions test.

I've had mine for 6 years, and they still pass fine.;)

Hi, they will not fit. The area that you are working with is next to the oil pan and the oil filter. On the passenter side, they will hit the starter, or clear it by a small amount. On the drivers side, they will hit the oil filter and the auto trans inspection plate. I have been dealing with my 82's custom exhaust for a bit now. A better solution is to go with duals from CC that will allow you to position the Converters further back along the system.

I can't use dual exhaust (California car) .. This is a 82 vette that is receiving a 1990 corvette drivetrain swap, so I am more concerned with when the body is back on will these precats interfere with anything.
