had to get a wiper door hinge welded so I tried to remove the 4 small bolts from the door and three of the four snapped off, anyone have a link to a repair?

When I got my '72 some 16 years ago, the wiper door has one of the corner bolt fittings broken off and missing......so I used some great epoxy to glue a bolt in that position, layered on on good.....still there....

now to simplify the bolt installs, take a dremel and slot the ends of the bolts, so all you need do is take a 1/8" screwdriver, and turn from the open end when the bolts are fully seated, I just take a smidge of RTV to the ends, to secure the bolts from backing out....a simple scrape with a U knife and then unscrew the bolts, nothing but a screwdriver and you fingers, no tools under the door trying to flip them bolt heads....I just used 5/16 dia bolts about a inch long or so, and never did bother with any bushings on the levers....

worked fine for years with the vacuum system, and of course now that it's electric also....

:crutches:

What size are the bolts? An insert should work there, unless its too big.

The entire threaded aluminum ear broke off on mine....now a daze I suspect a good TIG man could weld the piece back but obviously loose the paint....

not much room to use any inserts....

We used to offer a service for this. We ended up getting bent doors back and decided to discontinue the service. I had a local machine shop that had built a jig and they would mill the broken bolts out and then re-thread and use a stainless insert that was staked in place. We make the stainless bolts and it used to be a great service with quick turnaround. The problem was getting bad doors back. I thought about offering it as a service recently but I could not touch it for $59. If that is what CC is selling it for I don't see how you can do it for that. It would take about an hour or so with the setup and if I remember the inserts we were using were about 20 bucks for the four. Anyways if someone would like to call me, I can get them more detailed info on it and where to send the door. I will send you straight to the machine shop I used for it and you can deal directly with them.
Thanks
Justin

I too snapped on two bolts removing the door on my 70. I got a replacement used one from J&D Corvette in Bellflower, Ca. However, getting a used one is not easy. J&D probably has about 50 used doors. The problem is that almost all of them are defective in that they still have the remains of broken off bolts in them. I went through nearly all of them before I found one that had all four bolt holes free of snapped of bolt studs. Of course, I had to go through almost everyone befoe I finally found a good one!

Paragon offers a door repair service. Also the 68 door is slightly different than the 69 and up. They are all interchangeable and look the same when installed. The ends of the 69 and up doors are a little thicker since they have a small rivet hole drilled for a chrome strip end piece attach point. If you use a 68 door in a 69 and up car, you'll just have to ignore this extra chrome piece fastener.
