Phantom of the Opera
It was December 26, 1959, so I was still 15. The other participants were Jon S----- and the late Roger H----. We utilized the same weapon that you re-created in the early '70s and blew up behind the woodpile at your parents' house. The target was the main picture glass window in the ballroom at Columbia Country Club in Chevy Chase, MD. We used .45 slugs from the Mont. Co. Police firing range, which used to be located outdoors in Silver Spring very near Radial Tire Co.
The round struck the window, piercing it easily, blew hell out of a large expensive chandelier, went through the ceiling, and impacted a large steel girder in the roof, where it had to be pried off by the police and presented as evidence at our trial. There was a large Christmas season dance going on in the ballroom, and hundreds of guests ran screaming throughout the club and out into the bitterly cold night. To say the least, there was total chaos and confusion with dozens of police cars swarming all over the neighborhood. The county police ordered the B-CC Rescue Squad to shine some of their search lights on the golf course, and eventually they found the smoking cannon. We had not bothered to look for it after the cannon went off because the recoil would have sent it bouncing off into the dark of the #18th hole.
Since the 50th anniversary of this event has just occurred, I suppose I should pop a cork of champagne to note the occasion.

I remember you telling me of a event where you and another guy, back in grade school, blew the hell out of Congressional? CC glass window overlooking the fairway?? on night, and a bunch of political big wigs there....
can you name who was there?? and approx date/time you all did this??
leave out specific names, or I will redact that from the post....I think it's a amusing tale from more innocent times, and modern security reaction if that happened today....
