Just had a phone interview for a job in Santa Cruz, Ca. Didn't get an offer yet so nothing may become of it. But was just wondering if I did move there, how much of a hassle would they give my 73 Vette? I know they have stricter laws there. Bird?

1975 and before is smog exempt.
Santa Cruz is $$. Hope the job pays well.

Thanks for the info, Bird. Looks like I will be flying out next week for an interview. We would probably just get a condo if this works out. I've been looking on Realtor.com - very pricey!

Yep. Beautifull area, but too pricey for me. You just might like wearing shorts and flip flops 300 days a year though.:)

I came to CA from Georgis a few years ago, settled in OC.
DMV never even looked at my 69, registration was easy.
Great weather but the housing prices will take your breath away!!!!

After surviving another Michigan winter, it does sound enticing!

THAT is why I left Maryland 13 years ago, and you have it 6x worse with Michigan.....I"d rather live in a swamp around the corner here than much further north, ever again....

:twitch:

I am also looking at moving to California, but I have a 76 with an LT1 and sidepipes(no cats). What kind of problems am I going to run into?

For years, we had the 25 year law. Cars rolled off the smog check status after 25 years. In 2000, they froze it at 1975, because that is the first year all cars came with cat converters, and 76 was 1/2 ton trucks.
Technically, your car needs to have the engine it came with, with the stock smog equipment it had. A physical inspection will show these up.
The good news is, the techs here don't know what they are looking at with a car that old.
IF you install cats, and a Y-pipe type exhaust, and pass the sniffer test, you would probably be okay. Timing per your hood sticker is also checked, as is all smog stuff shown on that emissions sticker.

Hmmmmm. Does someone make "custom" emissions stickers?

What about a Historic or Antique plate. Do these cars have to be inspected. Also I read somewhere that only certain counties do smog testing. Is that true?
