A while back I ended up in a wrecking yard in the Mojave desert (long story). The owner showed me this old Studebaker salt flat car sitting in a dark corner. It still had its blown hemi and a C3 shaped nose (70-71). There was a plaque on the dash that said it went 270-something in 1976. Well, after some research, I found a picture of the car "back in the day". It went 271+ average both ways and had a one-way pass near 290 mph. Holy sh.....

any chance that car is still around and for sale?

WHY did you NOT buy it???
So cool - to rebuild and re-run.

Oh, nevermind. I'm not one to speculate.
STILL REAL COOL.

Cheers - Jim

Not sure. They had folks trying to build a fund to restore it. It was in the possession of Mr. George Calloway, known as the Mayor of El Mirage. He owns a big wrecking yard in the Mohave Desert just West of El Mirage. Hot Rod did an article on the yard, and there are 95 photos. Really cool. https://www.hotrod.com/features/el-...rge-callaways-dry-lake-treasure-trove/photos/ George was born in 1932, so I'm not sure he is still around - hope so. He is quite the character. Here is one of the photos of the inside of the car.
