Aluminum (big block) clearances vs Cast iron

I looked through a few old books I have. looks like the older blocks just have the two lifter galley plugs in the rear. I'm assuming the third is the galley, given the casting shape between it and the filter area.

Well, when it F'in rains, it F'in pours. I got a call from the machine shop that there was a problem with trying to get the pins pressed out of the first two rods that were worked on last week. We found out that the rod small ends were too small (excessive interference fit). The remaining six rods needed to be honed out an additional .001 to .0015 to get to an acceptable interference fit. However, the first two rods and pistons were destroyed in the process of trying to get them apart again.
So, I need to call Wiseco to get a couple replacements made (more $$), and then call Scat to explain the issue I ran into with their rods. Hopefully they will be standup people there, and help me getting two replacements.
So far, this new engine build has not been much enjoyment at all....

(I took some pictures of the pistons, but either my camera or my computer decided to take a shit on me, and I can't get the pictures downloaded. Just been a shit day today.)

Why are you messing around with press fit pins? Kind of a bad move on the shop that they didn't check it before and why on earth try it on 2 sets if the 1st set was already giving them issues? You're paying them for the work, why o you have to pick up the tab for the destroyed rods & pistons?
