Biggest PIA Job!

I'd say pedal coversion from auto to manual and replacing the door hinge pins are the worst two.

Stripping paint isn't hard just tedious.
I agree that stripping paint is just tedious, although it is easier when the very first re-spray wasn't prepped properly and the paint just comes away in sheets!
I haven't converted pedals but I replaced my hinge pins just before Christmas and after I'd finished both sides, I actually though that it was one of the easiest jobs I'd done on a C3 yet. What made it such a pain for you?

BTW, I don't recall what you are doing with your interior. Do you have all the original trim, dash, etc?

I'm not too sure yet. Most of my parts are trashed unfortunately...so regardless of what I do, I will have to do a lot of saving and a lot of spending. I'm probably making it all black (with all stock stuff). I don't have the money to get all new parts, so I will probably have to buy them used and refinish them to my satisfaction...we'll see.

hmmm... I have new pins and bushings on the shelf waiting for me to get off my lazy butt and install them.... tell me what/how you did it.... I was expecting this to be another pita job...

heres a 3 step process that usually works for me ....

(1) put down remote
(2) get up out of the chair
(3) go work on car

Damn, that's what I've been doing wrong :smash:

They were pretty easy Karsten. I took my camera out to "document" the process and in the end, I didn't bother.

Maybe a little easier for me as I already had my door trims off, but this is how I did it.
Remove the door trims, support the door on a floor jack, then take out the 6 bolts holding the hinge to the door. Jiggle the door as far out of your way as possible to give you better access to the hinge pins.

Get down on your hands and knees and with a hammer and punch, smack the hinge pins out (upwards). If your fenders are original, you will probably have a clearance issue with the top pin and the head will contact the fender edge on it's way out. Using a dremel, either cut the head off entirely or just grind half of it away so that it will clear the fender.

Because my car is the Frankenstein of the Corvette world I didn't have a clearance issue with the pin heads and they just snuck past without contacting the fender.

When installing the new ones, either grind half the head away for the top pins and install from the top or I have read where people installed the top pin from underneath to avoid having to grind it. Either way, position the new bushes and smack the new pins back in then bolt the door back on etc...

Easy peasy
