C3 Aluminum Control Arms

Try driving a 1920 Model T on the freeway in traffic.

I've always wanted to try driving a Model T with that looney planetary gear transmission controlled by the foot pedals. I have yet to find someone who owns one and will let me take it for a spin, though.

My dad has a 1930 Ford AA stakebed, it's a lot more conventional than the Ts but can still be scary to drive except on city streets and back roads. I have a high-speed rear end for it still strapped to a rotted-out junker we hauled home from Wisconsin years ago, but I don't know when I'll get around to rebuilding it. With that, I might be able to get it up to about 50 safely, rather than being run over at 42. What's worse, it has a shortened frame as it was originally a dump truck, so the taillight is buried under the bed. I have a second taillight and plans to relocated them to a spot closer to the back of the bed, but that's something else that has yet to be done...

I found Norval's original thread on this from ten years ago. He is saying 0.5 to 1.5 inches.

I'll probably get the longest.

As for the arm shafts, a machine shop could set you up with some easily. Add a long howe moduar ball joint and you have what you want.
Here's a better pic of the arms.

How long are people going on the upper? It looks like you can go 0.1" to 0.9".

I'm going to install some SPC uppers and Vansteel lowers I picked up cheap from a guy who is restoring (back to stock) a restomod C2.

I put Howe ball joints on my camaro, they are quality pieces, worth the extra $.

Anyone know how far they offset the mounting holes?

Since there has been a suggestion to run taller Howe ball joints, are there any issues with running tall ball joints on stock control arms? Could you run into ball joint bind?

Cheers,
Matt.
