Cash 4 clunkers

By law, the entire car is scrapped/crushed :twitch:

The news out here said the scrap yards HAVE to sell the engine for scrap, and then have 30 days to sell what parts they can, THEN the car gets schredded.

The engine is scrap. No chance of reviving them from the dead. The rest of the car has all hazardous materials removed including switches and electronics that might contain mercury. This is done at the government certified processing facility. After 180 days the car is crushed or shredded.

3. Ensure Proper Disposal

To qualify, the salvage yard that accepts the 'clunker' must remove and properly dispose of all toxic and hazardous components and liquids prior to crushing or shredding. This is a main reason for requiring sites to be registered with ELVS. That is the only means for properly disposing of all the mercury automotive switches. For help with the other materials, contact your association or county recycling contact.

4. Have On-site handling
The 'clunker' must be crushed or shredded onsite within 180 days. Mobile on-site crushers can be used but the vehicle can not be transferred to any other disposal facility before it is crushed or shredded.

I heard a report car dealers taking in clunkers aren`t being paid.....

I read somewhere that they have 225 people manually processing all the paperwork and they can't get it through quick enough and they are also having problems with info on the forms.

Don't tell congress about all the gas hogging polluting V8's being sold in the aftermarket.

If they think the little 4.0 V6 in a Ford Explorer is evil........

This program is such a waste of resources and the foreign car makers are having a field day, jap sales must be up right? Would be more economical to just load up those last loaned dollars you guys have and put them on a ship and export to Asia.

If we sent our borrowed money to Asia, we would be sending it back to where it came from
