Does your C3 have items from previous/late years?

My 1970 now has a 68 new repro rear wire harness with 68 backup lights and the 4 brake lights of the 68. I'm really disappointed that GM, for the 69. got rid of the four brake lights and the separate backup lights under the rear bumpers.
Installing the 68 rear wire harness and also reinstalling a repro factory theft alarm harness, which is in the rear of the car also, into the car was a surprisingly big job. I had a Corvette body shop modify the rear valance panels for the 68 backup lights. I had purchased NOS fiberglass parts to mount the backup lights and also the backup light assemblies themselves. Don't know about now, but in 2008 a pair of good used condition 68 backup light assemblies was about $200.

My 68 has the factory sidepipe exhaust pipes. The exhaust cutouts in the rear valance panel has been closed out to look like stock 69 cars that came with the factory sidepipes. My 68 convertible also has duplicate factory shoulder belt harnesses (there were only 35 68 Convertibles made with shoulder belts) and also my 68 has 69 headrests.

Installed a 6.0 LQ9 Escalade engine in my 78 vette. Electric Fuel pump, C5 filter regulator 58 psi. 2004R transmission with Shift Kit, Bowtie TV cable and LS Kit, B&M quicksilver shifter, Holley Accessory brackets for A/C, PS and Alt brackets. Holley ECU and Cables, Vintage Air, Fiero Seats by Mr. Mikes, Jeep Steering Box conversion with Borgeson Drag Link. Aluminum Radiator with Z28 dual electric fans, Dakota Digital Gauges. Redline Goods Steering Wheel.
Next addition will be electric head lights conversion, painting Cyber Gray C7 color with 80 rear bumper cover.

The frame (with many mods), birdcage with VIN, main body section and rearclip (with 25th Anniversary Medallion on Gas Cap) are all that are original on my '78.

Cheers - Jim

When I got my '79 Corvette it had a '78 anniversary edition badge on the gas filler cap (early carry over part) and a bent turn signal lever (late style). It took a while as I became more familiar with C3's before I realized that there were these little variations.
Now I just purchased this customized '76 and I realize it has a '77 style interior, specifically the center console, it has the window switches on the console, not the parking brake housing.

Have you found similar issues with your C3's?

I think most Classic Vettes are 'Muts' ..that is....they've got parts or equipment from other years or sometimes from other Makes !

On my 1970 big block Vette, Ive got twin electric radiator fans in a shroud from a 1990's LT-1 Vette and they fit and work superbly . They flow air like crazy and look good too. I think that's the only equipment ive got that's from a different year .

Nothing is stock about my car, part range from '65 through '94, the frame is not stock, and no other aspect is either.....not nuttin'....

Mine was modified by the previous Owner who patterned the buildup after author Hib Halversons 'Big BLock From Hell' magazine series that he wrote quite some time back for his personal 1971 . So when I bought it, it was already heavily modified albiet tastefully . Ive basically kept it the same except for adding a bunch of engine chrome and a functional L88 Hood , plus a more wicked Mighty Demon carb and snottier cam (Now it goes rumpity rump rumpity rump ....) :

At a little Show & shine a couple of years ago I ran into a fellow with a '77 that had a bubble rear window on the back,he said it was a late production 77,the plant had ran out of sugar scoop bodies, but had 78 bubbles ready for next build,sooo.. the car has a 77 dash in it & door panels and from what I could see most of the late 77 stuff like my late 77 (alarm switch in the door , cruise control) he had docs(title, copies of window stickers) that showed it sold in early 78.
When I first looked, I thought he was just pulling chains to get people to look.

I used to be on the same Vette Chat Site as he was on. That Guy is a walking encyclopedia when it comes to Vettes of all years. Ill bet a lot of Owners did the Big Block From Hell mod's from his extensive writeup which I think was at least a 6 part Series.

I picked up on reading corvette rags along about '92 or so when buying my '87 vette, but after 3 years I found the car had some basic design flaws that by '95 became unlivable, seat way to narrow for me on the bottom, hurt my hips, weatherstripping absorbed rain/water and dripped all over inside, it was a convertible....and the paint was starting to give up the ghost in the rear deck....so I sold it, and bought my '72 with a ~12 y/o gorgeous burgundy color, paint job....but you know some 15 years later it too got tired....:surrender: but it's been years since I have picked up any rags, the favorite was Corvette Fever, but there was another one also picked up....

Back when I was subscribing to Corvette Mags, I liked Corvette Fever a lot too. I changed over to CarCraft as theres more mechanical oriented write-ups in it than the Vette Mags I find. I like reading about the buildup projects people have had .

96 Trans Am T56, 85 Silverado engine block, Procharger kit from a Nova, 05 GT seats, Mustang e-brake handle, 82 Rear bumper, 74 front bumper... Strange that they had these parts lying around the GM factory in 78??
