Engine guys please help. No oil pressure

They move freely side to side? How much, if you have too much side clearance excessive amounts of oil will spray out and you will loose a lot of oil pressure.

No just very slight movement. Just a wiggle really. Same amount as when I installed them.

can we back up a minute...you had oil pressure three weeks ago but don`t have any now?? you shouldn`t have to prime a motor after three weeks.

Yeah I had 50-60 psi 3 weeks ago. Cranked it Saturday and had 0 on the electrical guage. I did not leave it running long and I "may" have jumped the gun. When I did pull the pan there was oil on the rods and cam. After removing the sending unit and blowing compressed air through it the guage shot to 70 psi. Submerging the oil pump in a sink full of water and spinning the shaft caused the water to pump out of the pump.

When I drained the oil it was black but free of debris. I would say that I jumped the gun but one last thing worries me. The oil filter did not lose any oil when I unscrewed it. It also was not full. Now I did remove it the day after the motor was running and pulling the oil pan off. I still would have expected to have oil running down my arm and the filter being overflowing at the top.

Thoughts on all of this????

:hissyfit:

Thanks

Yes, the filter should have been full if the pump was supplying flow. The only sure way to tell is to use a mech gauge, without it you're jsut guessing.

I once had a new oil filter that caused my 415 to show ZERO oil pressure.
Re-installing the oil filter caused pressure to return to normal. Exchanging the filter for a different make solved that problem.

Problems using Teflon tape are most often caused by not installing it correctly. The first few threads should be left free of tape and the direction the tape is wound on has to be correct.

Hold the part with the threads facing your body (torso), then wind on the tape in a CLOCKWISE direction NOT the opposite way.

Little things like that make all the difference.
