gauge recommendation?

As you guys can see I still have the original clock in place. I was planning in leaving it, but it looks awkward. What gauge should I put in its place? Keep in mind I'm keeping my LS1 stock.

outside temperature or a clock :bounce:

ok... seriously.... oil temp .....

For an auto trans, stick the sensor in the oil line feeding the cooler circuit...

Yeah I saw auto meter had clocks, but for $65, I say get another gauge. I could always get an ambient air temp gauge...:D I'm driving a manual, so no trans temp needed, otherwise, that would have been what I went for. I don't plan on doing custom tuning, at least not yet and not for a while. I would consider painting the clock, but it doesn't work anyway. I was merely keeping the clock for sentimental value and to fill the hole until the engine was built up and I needed another applicable gauge.

I think oil temp might win out. I like the idea of a vac or vac/boost gauge, but a vac gauge I might obsolete in a few years and a vac/boost gauge might look silly (or poser-like) without any forced induction present. I've also heard a lot of people using fuel pressure (electric, not a manual gauge), which would be nice, but it's a little too expensive for me.

Well since it's brought up, I might as well see what you guys think. I'm looking to see what you all think of this idea for my indicator lights:

I'm not sure who, but I did see somewhere someone had a similar set up.

I like what vette427sbc did with his, but the LEDs I bought already won't work like that. Mine are too flat-faced and have a chrome ring that surrounds the edge. I think the gauge tunnel is too much of a curve.

My original idea was to place the lights in between the gauges on the center console, but with my tilt rings, the gauges seem to stick off the surface too much and could very well hide the lights.

:clap:Cool as a moose man, love it, not so terrible far removed of what I did, see sites below for a shot in there of the current iteration....:withstupid:

Will you be using the seatbelt, door ajar, and headlamp warning lights? If not, I think that would be a neat spot for the LED's. Only problem would be to find another spot for the CEL.
Also... did your gauges not already sit on a slight angle? When I mounted mine, they sat on the stock slight angle- no need for the angle adapters.

Yeah I'm keeping those lights. That would be a good spot if I wasn't using them. I never noticed the stock angle, to be honest . I bought all my stuff before I saw your thread. I tried the gauges in the stock holes with no rings, however, the rings really do angle them a good amount and I prefer it over the stock angle. The pictures really doesn't do them justice.

Alright so I went with an oil temp gauge to round out the package. I also ordered my last LED for the check engine light.

As I was looking over the gauge tunnels tonight for my final install, I noticed the LEDs I bought might actually work in the tunnel wall. The only problem is since the lens is flat, I don't think they could be seen if I mounted them flush.

I'm going to check out some hardware stores for some tubing (plastic or metal) that I could potentially epoxy to the tunnel at an angle and serve as a mount for the lights. Might work. Might look terrible. Got to find some tubing first haha.
