Ground fault tracing

I'm a little confused here.
You replaced a bad 2 pole 50amp GFI with a 30 amp rated one?
Or was the 30 amp in the main panel feeding a branch circuit with a disconnect box and a 50 amp GFI?

I've seen a lot of these wired incorrectly, but have never seen one with electric heat that required less than a 50 amp circuit and 6 ga wiring.

Mine is on a 60 amp circuit, but GFI's weren't code back then.

I replaced the two pole (50 Amp each) GFI at the remote box with a two pole (30 Amp each) GFI. The main fuse panel has a normal trip fuse with two circuits of 30 Amp each

If the 30 amp holds, all the better. Look on the Spa for a UL Nameplate that should state "Minimum circuit requirement."
