this is the dialog i imagine happening with the accelerator pedal in my '06 GMC. i think it's "fly by wire" but not sure. this takes about 3 seconds in real life.
pedal:
i sense that you have depressed the gas pedal slightly further but i will continue at my previous pace.
i sense that you have pressed the gas pedal again but i am as of yet not convinced you really mean this and will therefore continue at the same pace.
alright, you're really sending me mixed messages here. you keep depressing the pedal but i am still unsure of your true intent.
o.k. i think i've got it. you have pressed the pedal still further and i am now almost certain you intend to speed up.
oh jesus christ! for fuck sake, o.k. asshole! i get the hint. here, why don't i just downshift all the way to first fucking gear?! how do you like that?!
dickhead.

i swear i'll never trust a transmission that shifts for itself.

You saying your tranny is a rather shiftless sort???

maybe it's a Dynaflo???

honestly, I dunno why not take just two Tconverters in series with each other....lock one, lock two, case closed....

no gear, no clutches, no seals, no nothing, done....

Sounds like a throttle position sensor or some garbage like that has failed. When you stomp on it it goes into some sort of default value and downshifts as a result of the screwy inputs to the computer. Get it fixed!

I agree. My 03 Silverado is fly by wire, and responds alot better than that. I did have some low speed stalling issues, but cleaning the TB solved that one.

i think the truck is working fine. i just suck at automatics. can't get my mind right for them. you know, in the vette, even the most minute input gets a response. not so much with the truck. i have the same problem with any automatic i drive.
there is a reason they're called a "slushbox".

I never had that problem with my automatics. There may be some slight lag in downshifting but it is still a whole lot faster than me trying to downshift my 'Vette manually. All the serious drag cars have automatics, it's a proven fact - they are faster!

I still say something's wrong with your truck.:stirpot:

I had the same problem with an 01 Silverado 5.3l and cleaning it solved it, I agree there's something wrong with a sensor.

My gas pedal has a personality disorder, probably bi-polar. It's kinda binary, it says two things...on/off on/off on/off......

Sounds like my sex life........:crutches::chinese::sweat:

Reminds me of an old limerick

I once met a young lady

who offered me her honor

So I honered her offer

And all night long

I was on her and off her....

These newer electrionic controlled trannys can be real touchy on throttle position. And TPS controls line pressure, shift "feel", and shift points. And it's not yet smart enough to know when there's a reason for xx line pressure at xx speed, and that hill that's coming up is not going to be steep enough for a forced downshift but it IS going to take another 5% increase in throttle position. So it goes all silly and downshifts, then up, then down, and the TPS is going on/off,on/off,on/off and the rest of the system is saying

:confused::confused::confused:

Maybe a modern electronic version of what we used to call 'Dial A Win' the old pushbutton Mopar tranny gear selectors....remember them???

:drink:

Exactly correct there Gene. The difference is those old Mopar things had enough cable to wire a small city. This new stuff is a collection of micro switches that respond well to millivolts and don't stay happy for long in an automotive environment.

What seems to be the prime fail points?? the computer, the wiring, or the valves....I know my TCC valve in this 200 hung up when I had to drop the pan after building it, to replace it....it stuck locked or unlocked sometimes even stalling the engine...

:goodnight:

The valves. And, they get big $$$ for them.

i feel my attempt at humor has failed :suicide:

Not really. It pisses me off that my diesel pickup, running down the highway at 70 MPH, just below peak torque, on cruise control, downshifts on those little "roller" hills. Up,down, up,down. wears me out, and I know exactly what causes it. Just can't do a flippin thing about it because the master programmer didn't want to load the engine up and make it pull a little bit. I can really load it up- 11 bales of hay at 1800 lbs each, plus 8k for the truck and another 2k for the trailer- it'll blow smoke and pull like a draft horse- but just the truck, empty, and it downshifts on hills I'd ride a bicycle on. And I don't do bicycles anymore.

80k bux for the truck, I would THINK someone could program that behavior out of the thing....aftermarket guys??

Clutch, that is one reason I ditched the 700 used to be in my vette...put in a 200 with MUCH better manners....at higher speeds WOT that 700 would wind the living piss out of the engine and never upshift into O/drive....
unless I lifted, then it would go, I get on again, and down it would go....
that and a totally useless 1st gear, not across the intersection and 2nd gear/lugging at <1500 rpm, yeh it's a TPI, but Jesus man....

:(

i think Tim has it figured out. pretty much what i mean. these small inputs that you get with a direct connection not only from your right foot to the throttle but all the way out to the drive wheels.
It just seems to require more throttle input than the vette does. Like when I'm on the freeway and, as Tim puts it, I come up on those roller hills, i'll just ease into the throttle and i don't seem to get much of a throttle response. i go a little further, then further, then a little further, then WHAM! it's downshifting to like double low.
mrs. 'dust teases me that i'm the only person she knows who can't drive an automatic!
