A friend from the resort island Phuket Thailand just returned from a trip to Germany and sent me the following message. My question is this how the German people think?

Hi Every one,

I am back from my trip to Germany what an interesting trip I was gone only 15 days but I learned a lot I went to visit friends in Berlin and a little town south west of Munich Tutsing.

One of the things that amazed me most about the Germans was there attitude. I was driving a long the streets with my friend and I noticed most of the cars were German NOT Japanese, Thai, Korean, Chinese, French, British or American. I mentioned this to my German friend driving and he said well when you buy a German car even thought you may pay a few thousand Euro's More you are supporting Germans as that's there pension, that's there medical and that's there welfare and that's there social security. So we don't like to buy pumps or generators or tools from Taiwan or China or Japan or America we buy German.

He then said the Germans could not believe the Americans letting there whole country fall apart and the lack of support for each other in America. He said the Americans had really lost the plot.

I was interested about what he said and as I toured around and meet other Germans I mentioned this fact that they all seemed to buy German. Amazing the Germans all said the same thing that the money from the purchase supported there country men and kept people working and kept the country together.

I was amazed at the rebuilding going on. Every thing was being improved.

I went to model rail road club and a biker club in Bavaria and the people were great spoiling me with the super tasty food and the best beer. When I mentioned what I had seen in the cars they basically all said the same things that by buying German they were keeping there country together.

Well I am home now in Phuket glad to be back with my family but I would like to go back to Germany and visit again and go and see my fathers family in France.

Seems pretty correct to me. I've been to Germany several times. Most of the cars are either Benz or Beemers. The roads are second to none- smooth, well maintained- and fast. But for the most part very good drivers.

In the US, everyone is looking for cheap- so they buy cars from Korea, Japan, heck they were even buying cars from Yugoslavia (YUGO). All in the name of cheap.

The company I work for started bitching about us renting Benz's and Beemer's- we had a heck of a time explaining to the office that it was like renting a Ford here.

I would dispute one point there. I don't believe in buying the cheapest, I want to buy the best I can afford. Now if that means buying American versus German versus Japanese, then that's just the way the chips fall. But make no mistake, if it's important I'll buy the German or the Japanese if it's a better product.
Of course everything I just said counts out products from China. That's all shit.

I'm in France right now, and I see a lot of french cars.
Buying national is kind of natural, You usually get better support, and parts are cheaper.

French cars junk. Want a car where in order to change a headlamp bulb you have to jack up the car, remove the wheel, bolt off a part of the inner fender and then have to use a socket with 10 extensions? Buy French.

An old friend from the old church group over 1/2 century ago, he owned a Citroen this thing looked like the above AFAIK....with some flip out mechanism for turn signals off the pillar post on the side of the car....

it was about the most wacked out machine I ever seen, the wheel base was really screwy too, I forget which end was what, but one had a really narrow wheel space, the other was much wider.....I was shocked it was actually licensed here in America....but it WAS Wash DC, after all....

:bump:

You're so right, who in the hell I am to even dare talking about about my former homeland.
Since national prejudice is at the menu du jour, as a self inflicted punishement, I'm gonna praise the great holland auto industry.
Oh wait, there isn't.

funny stuff.... 2CV ... what does that mean ??? de crappy voiture !!!!! :1st::1st::beer::clap:

close, the french call them deux cheval - which means "two horse" as in two horsepower; after driving one, I've owned nags that were faster

and seriously, you may drive lambos, ferraris, and corvettes - but you haven't lived until you've driven a 3 speed that shifts on the dash.

True that they must be crap, they certainly look like it anyway, but they have been wrecked, beaten up, left for dead but they are still around.

Anyway, Ithink any country should support theyre economy, and buy the stuff they build.

Sacre blue I offended you by ragging on the french auto industry? I am really offended by you taking a stab on the world renowned dutch auto industry. I will defriend you now okay :rain::surrender:

Maybe you should go burn down the dutch embassy

He from Algeria?? oh shit......I didn't know that.....

I would say that about 10% of the cars on the road in the Wash DC region have American name plates on them.....

But one funny exception, a old neighbor from years ago, a VERY polite and well educated Japanese couple, they drove a Chevy....he was a honcho for the Japanese Ex/Im bank....what ever THAT is, some kind of money handling/laundering operation I suppose....methinks all countries have one....

;)

I think that the Germans indeed buy predominantly German. Things are changing here as well. Lots of people getting fed up with the poor Chinese, Indian.... quality.
