Little mouse that Roared

Back in the late 60's a buddy of mine had a punched out 283 (301) in a MalibuSS and that little sucker ran pretty darn good!

Actually a 301 is 283 block punched to 4 inch bore. A 307 is a 283 bore with a 327 crank.:noworry:

OK I stand corrected once again.

Don't look at it as a correction, but as a clarification.

Back in the 80's I had a bunch of 307 blocks and 305 cranks laying around. So, on a whim, I punch out one 307 block to 4 inch bore and threw in a 305 crank with a set of 350 pistons and a fairly big cam. Threw that in a 70 Nova SS and beat the shit out of a number vehicles. I build 5 motors that way.

Disclaimer----Sonic test 307 block first. Of course I didn't on the ones I built.:hunter:

The production of power is a function of rpm. If you have not enough low end torque you can always install a shorter rear axle ratio and have more torque low down where needed (or a trans with a deeper first)
