Ls1

oops, Now I remember from another thread that you've got a 400 block....

did you post photos of the damaged cylinder walls ? maybe i missed the pics but I'm assuming cleaning the bores and re-using the pistons with new rings is not an option ???

I think the location/importation is what so many people are missing.
I'm sure Marck has a much better idea of what it would take for you to get all the stuff you need imported, but I imagine it would cost you as much for the block, if not more, to have something sent over there from here.
I'm concerned with all the accessories you would need to make the conversion work. That's why I suggested the late Gen1 block. Don't know how difficult they are to come by where you are but they're a dime a dozen here. I know GM didn't export a lot of full sized cars and trucks to Europe but I figure the small block Chevy is one of the most produced engines in automotive history. I'm just hoping the later block, which is much better, is available somewhere over there.

Transport, import duties, VAT and what not is indeed a big issue, certainly when importing high value or heavy things.

From summit the shipping of a DART 400 block was 450 US$ which is not to bad considering the weight and volume involved. Problem the DART block from summit is not finish machined.

I'm going to refer you to a thread i made over at speedtalk about his. It was discussed at length there, so it's easier to just point you there. You can see the bore distortion based on the markings in the top portion of the bores, caused by distortion when the heads are torqued down. Basically a good indication that the block was not plate honed as was requested and what i paid for. Seen the effect on the vacuum reading when hot, i fear the worst. I also think that due to bad sealing of the rings, the oil was burned of the walls, causing the scuffing.

Block is already .040 over, so max. oversize (stock factory blocks with a 4.125 bore are very hard to come by these days, most are already 0.030 over). Piston clearance was already at or close to borderline as is. So any additional honing will create even more clearance. That is, if i can find someone to take enough time to do it correctly and with honing plates...which is an issue over here (it's a lot easier to have a Merc or Audi block done than an detroit iron)
I built a 6.250" rodded engine based on the 400block (3.250" stroke). This is not the average baseline engine. Rods don't fit any combo, and they are the best that you can get, so i would like to reuse them.

Eagle crank suffered probably from some tapered or barrel shaped journals as well, but that's the least of my problems.

If you want to go with the LS, yes they fit nicely in a corvette.

As for shipping, I got my last engine shipped half way across the country for $100, OVERNIGHT!
Guessing your costs might be a bit higher.

yeah, they can't ship it by truck...

I dunno they may could at least try......they showing those hurry cain pix of some national Guard types in their heavy trucks just about underwater, trying to do whatever, and them getting rescued....the trucks looked funny, still running with snorkels for the diesels, obviously, but they got stuck....

so never give up hope...do a search for the vid, it's funny...

:lol::hissyfit::eek:

Container freight isn't too expensive, my guy is in Buffalo TX and ships it to Rotterdam, stuff can be picked up in Lelystad. Only a couple hundred in container freight

No every week a container full of stuff & cars is shipped. Currently I have a complete 63 corvette front and a k member & arms for my trans am in it. They fill the container and then it sails. A lot of people use them. Holland Ranch in Buffalo TX. They are very helpful & friendly, highly recommended.
