Managed to piss off a bunch of C4 ZR-I guys at CFOT

i know someone with a lingenfelter ZR-1 and that is a neat car. i look to see them become a curiosity more than a valuable collectable.
with that said i fall out quickly with the later model owners, people that add chrome taped on trim to a car just aren't car guys. none of those types have a clue what a corvette is. they know people have said Vettes are cool and think by owning the latest and greatest they to will be cool. generally they are misfits with low self esteem.
i dont have anything to prove to anyone with a c4 and up, I've been faster than the vast majority of them will ever go and driven cars down a Dragstrip way quicker than any c7 corvette. i wax mine and keep it clean its certainly show ready all the time, but it is because i enjoy mine. a new set of drag radials is evidence that i intend to use mine in a way a real Vette owner should

Owned my '72 for some 20 years now, my car is only half fast......but it's fun to run the roads a mile at a time.....to the store for beer or food, then back home....but I have my top down mostly.....and cancerous skin to the sun/wind.....as I have been for decades....nothing changes....:waxer::crap::hi:

I think you've hit it right on the head. Truth be told, all of our cars fit in the curiosity category. Sure there aren't a lot of old Corvettes out there but very, very few are anything like valuable collectables.

I understand the fascination with ZR-1's but not the pedastal that owners put them on. For the time, they really are quite incredible and stand up well to today's sportscars. I would love to own one and would drive it until the tires melted BUT, if I want to go fast and do well in an auto cross, I'll take my daily driver, a GS430.

the later model C3 corvettes were lacking in several ways due to the government involvement with safety and emissions and the insurance industry trying to keep costs low. BUT, few cars available to auto enthusiasts has as much potential as the later C3 cars.
the other thing i always come back to is that as good as the newer versions are, ours were designed by LEGENDS,and driven in competition by the greatest of all time. i think we may faire better then a curiosity, but the book is still being written.
