Actually two questions:

1. Anyone know if the heater box for a 1972 w/AC is identical to one without AC? I'm talking about mounting holes and the large holes in the firewall that they enclose.

2. Anyone know where I can find a heater box if they are identical?

Dep

Oh yeah...Hi all! :bounce:

which box do you need, AC or NON/AC? and which side of the firewall do you need?

No, the AC hole is much larger. You will need to modify an AC box w/ glass or buy one from american graffiti.

Hey, U still alive!!!

U dropped out like a hippie for so long, though you were demonstrating in Wisconsin or something.....

The non-AC box and the AC box share some mounting holes. The cutout for both is in the AIM (I think).

I've got a complete firewall AC unit, probably from a 69, and a non-AC unit (heater box) from a 72. If you need something, pm me.

Thanks for the offer, but I'll pass on it. It will probably be easier to just sheet aluminum the openings. It will save space too.

Good to hear from you Dep! Sounds like you're back to wrenchin' on the Vette.

Good to see you Kid.
Well I was out at the storage facility checking things out and remembered the heater box issue. Unfortunately, the two rear tires were flat and over the Winter the sidewalls split on both of them. Now I need to find out if 15X10 inch factory-style slotted rally wheels will fit on the rears or if I need an offset.

Vintage Air's AC conversion kits have closeouts for the firewall. They sell kits for both a/c and non-ac cars. The instruction booklets show the closeouts. I think the booklets are available on-line at their website. You can look at the firewall openings there I believe.

Well I looked through their online catalog and didn't find anything like that. Do you know what page it is on?

Hey DEP! I used some sheet metal on my firewall when i pulled out a/c box and fan to cover the holes. I took a big piece of construction paper and laid it on the fire wall and traced out a pattern to blend in with the curves. cut out the shape and traced it on the sheet metal and used my band saw to cut it out. I attached it to to the firewall with 3m window adhesive,it comes in a roll and is used to hold the windshield in. I did this so i would not have to drill any holes and it's water tight.

Yep...that is pretty much my plan. BTW...I DID find a blower motor/heater box for cars with no AC at Corvette Central. But at $200 it's a tad out of my price range, and since I don't know how much of the openings it will cover, it's just not worth the cash. Think you could post a pic? I'd like to see how it looks.

It's in their downloads section. In the left column of their homepage, there's a button that says downloads.

Scroll down all the downloads until you get to the installation instructions for 69 and up Corvettes. Download 781174-PCN is for non factory AC cars. Download 784173-PCE is for factory AC cars. I jiust looked....unfortunately their drawings are not too helpful since they are not full scale. Some of Vintage Airs drawings are full scale, but these are not. Sorry.

Thanks in advance for the pics
Hey....any idea if factory-style rallye slotted rims in 10 inch width will fit okay in my wheel wells and clear whatever needs to be cleared?? I need to buy two wheels and tires for the rear. Would like to get some slightly wider than the 8 inch that are on there.

Hmmmm....a bell is ringing when you mentioned dual alternators. ;)
