Reuseable air filters/cleaner assy's.

Reuseable air filters, like the K & N units. I see knock offs on ebay for as little as $39.99. What are your opinions? Are the knock offs any good? Over $140.00 for an authentic K & N makes me wonder....

I dunno man, them two filters on front of my engine almost have to be China also...I just keep them oiled, and with the sheer size of them, I figger the airflow is reduced a good bit, per section of filter area.....so reduced flow I HOPE would make for cleaner air....

Ha! Ha! The more things change the more they stay the same! Went looking for a replacement filter for my 63 only to find the paper version has been discontinued and have to BACK to the OEM foam version!:bonkers: least it's not an oil bath system.

We date ourselves just a bit.... I remember owning/driving some of those.
Were the oil bath filters less effective or did they not comply with the American consumer mentality of throw it out and buy a new one? I can see that they did not generate after market revenue like a disposable air filter element does.:stirpot:

Well, after shopping around I figured I would gamble the 39.99 & 10.00 shipping on the ebay unit. I'll let you all know how it is when it gets here.

HOW in hell would you know, the 'brands' are changed so quickly, the China factories retool to something else SO fast, and the importers pick and drop shit so quick, one day it's decent, next day it's junk....

And not to get side tracked - is this ebay knock off filter any good or is there something to be wary of?

Search around you may be able to find the real thing at the knock off price! Is there something special about the foam or it the oil that catches? Inquiring minds want to know!

As I stated earlier, I paid $40.00 for a K&N, not a brand X. Autozone has them.

this one on Ebay seems to be the filter, the lid and the drop base... too good to be true in my opinion.....

The K&N filter 14x3" is how much ? $50 ?? The lid is another $70 or $80 as far as I remember....

What's to be wary about ??? Good question..... I doubt the entire filter will get sucked down the intake but parts might ... if it come apart.... then again, isn't the K&N made somewhere in Asia too ??

B2B - It's the whole assembly, drop base with 14" x 3" reuseable filter and the lid with the reuseable filter.

I really believe that you get what you pay for. That said, I don't go to a candle store to buy candles, they cost way to much in a specialty store. You all know what I mean. I have used K&N for years, but..........the one I have on my big block now, is some other brand that I got from Don's Hot Rod shop here in town. He and his father have been racers since the late 40's or early 50's. They know their products, and I used an off brand this time.

Let's face it, my 69 big block is not a daily driver, hell, I've only put 2-3000 miles on it in 3 years.

Use an off brand, keep it clean, and pay attention to it is how I look at it with what I have. Good words??? I don't know, but that's my damn story and I'm sticking to it. Unless you have very clear video proof, you can't prove a thing.:hissyfit:

My worthless opinion is ...K&N has done a magnificient marketing ploy of labeling their product "designer" of the filtration industry.

It's not magic......more air flow....more dirt....!!

Just another over priced designer name to allow folks to feel special...!!!:trumpet:

Alex/plus has a good point. On a diesel forum there was a thread abou the K&N filters. Seems there was dirt getting thru and it was beating up the impellers in turbos. Looked like they'd been sandblasted. I'll stick with my cheap AC paper filters. (That's cheap when compared to)

Now that is interesting. I wonder if they didn't have them oiled. K&N filters with an outerware is all I ran on our 4 wheelers and never had a problem. Seems there would be more chance for a problem on an offroad only vehicle that was abused nonstop.

Ooops there it is!

Oiled up with the K & N oil kit and installed. I can't see anything wrong with it, the filters and lid look good to me. Saved about $90.00 over the name brand.:loveletter:

Under $50 shipped is a great deal. Filter looks good. Can you post some pics of the inside (or underside of that lid) ??
