I'm a dog lover. Nothing more grateful, loyal, loving or protective. My last big dog Poppa Bear passed Saturday morning. I knew it was coming for a long time, yet that doesn't make it any easier.
All four of our dogs were rescued as strays. Not from the pound, but from the parking lot and streets near my warehouse. I'll now be on the lookout for another abandoned homeless one. If I can't find one soon I'll go to the pound.

My buddy Poppa Bear.

Yeh, I understand, we lost wife's Chiwawa here, the one she moved here with, she was all long faced for a few months, then came Christmas and her daughter walked in with Tinker,.....another little Chiwawa....

following summer, we lost the cat to the China poison cat food thing, can't figger anything else for a reason....

so two more 'free kittens' showed up some 350 bux later they had a tune up and oil change.....

And then there is Wacker, the grandkids call him Tiney, he was about 2 hours old when her son hit him in a weed patch with the weed wacker, cut off part of his ear, and affected his right eye.....brought him inside and Linda/him nursed that little kitten along, when Dave comes over, he can still whistle and that cat will come running, trained as a dawg.....(southern for dog).....

Linda feeds all the neighborhood strays, every morning the garage door opens, there is Roofis....black cat found on our roof....plus maybe 50 thousand various other cats that come and go as they damn well please....

then the dawgs in the hood that are learning to meow by eating the cat food....

SO, when you guys are ready, there are more furballs around.....:friends::D

Sorry to hear of your loss. We have 4 dogs here, the oldest at 13+ and him just barely hanging in there. They are members of our families, we have lots of good times with them. When one of them goes we grieve just as we would for any other family member.
Finding another stray or taking in a rescue dog is in my opinion the best thing you can do. They all need homes and most of them are very loving and loyal in return.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss.

Just think about the time you had with him and what a wonderfull life he had, theres no way you could do anything about loosing him but wasnt it better to of had him and lost him and be sad than to not of had him at all.

I will admit I've cried like a baby over loosing these dogs. Our house is so empty without them. I'm going out to look monday.

I had a dog as a kid, then joined the Air Forcce, and knew that I would travel. I never thought it was too kind to quarentine a dog for whatever amount of time the guest country required, so I just never got one after joining the military. Our 2 son and wives have dogs, one has 3 and one has 2. All of those damned dogs are a part of my family now, too!! The 10 or 11 year old chihuahua is the oldest in the dog family, sure hate the day he goes.
I really do feel your pain.

Neighbor across the street lost his dawg too, after some 14 years, went and got this cute little puppy, with fuzz so soft, it's a CAT, some HIGH quality fuzz there,......

so that's the spirit, :quote::bounce:

Sorry for your loss Gene, one of the reasons I don't have pets...

As years gone by, it's one of many, mainly cats, some dawgs too....couple birds, one thing about cats.....they make GREAT bowling balls.....:bounce:

I found that out in a large apartment I had once, parquet flooring, and cat had a cow with traction action.....I could roll him across the floor, he'd slide and scurry right back for more.....we tend to warp cats....:quote::rofl:

I've got a dog too, rescued him in 2007.... some guy gave puppies away at the side of the road.... we got there when there were only two left.... now he's a 50lbs mix... he's just awesome !!!

I had 2 dogs, collie/shepherd mix and full blooded shepherd. Moved them to NH in 1972. Never heard of heart worm in Pa and vet said the dogs would die naturally of old age before any effects of heart worm. So, they received no preventative medication. Both died within 3 years of HEART WORM.

At that point, I said the heartbreak of losing a member of the family was not worth having another pet.

FF to 2006. My friend's dad was off to the nursing home. He had a CAT! I hate CATS. Full blooded Persian. Age unknown, but at least 13 years old. Over at my friends house sitting on the floor playing with his son, he knows how I feel about cats, when up out of the basement comes this yellow (golden) furball. Comes over to me and lays down against my leg and goes to sleep. Within 2 days this furball (Gizmo) was living with me. Never saw a cat with this tempermant before. He acts like a dog, comes when called, and does not jump up on things. Damn, after 63 years of cat hating, I love my Gizmo.

If I did not take him, his son said he would go to the pound and be put to sleep.

Sorry to hear that, it's never easy to lose a pet, especially a dog

We just recently got a another dog after we lost our siberian husky

That's a Great looking dog. Is that a small dog and a big frisbee? or a big dog and a giant frisbee?

A local customer who is a plain clothed police detective would get parts at the warehouse and our 3 dogs would jump all over him. We would tell them to "get down" as Ron was dressed in slacks and a suit. But he would reply: "I love dogs; in my job - you get to hate most people".

She's not a real tall dog but she is 80 pounds, the frisbee is pretty big though lol
