Hi Bob,
good to hear you're ok.

Was going to buy a generator after hurricane Charley in 2004 or 2005.... never did.... but it sure is a great thing to have :)

I THINK that is the one that knocked a major tree down into a neighbor's roof, and took out the pole xfmr for our groups of 5 houses on it.....SO, I plugged in my ~100' heavy shop cord I had for contracting work, from my neighbor's washing machine outlet, into my window, down the hall a bit, and ran other cords from that quad plug to my fridge, TV, and computer and two lights.....so bummed juice from him for a week, meanwhile my neighbor on the other side only wanted to keep his salt water fish tank alive, and tried to get juice from the guy on the other side of him....that fucking bastard REFUSED Jr's request.....what a prick.....so we ran a series of 3 yard cords from another of Chuck's outlets to Jr's fish tank, straight across all our back yards.....damn cheep bastard on that corner house is NO ONE's friend in the entire burb......:smash::twitch::tomato:

Bought a generator after an ice storm knocked out power here.....damn good thing I did. Took 7 days to restore power. I have used it many times for outdoor power. It comes in handy!

Good to hear you are ok Bob. Some of the devastation I see on the news is just unbelievable.

Oh GOD yes, those pix on the news look really SAD, and BAD, poor folks....

and I have driven ALL those roads, and through MOST of those town affected, years ago....been a while.....:goodnight::mad:

worst thing with these hurricanes is that often they are not as bad as predicted, people let their guard down thinking "nah, last time nothing happened" .... same thing happened with Charley here in 2004. There were a few warnings earlier that year and when Charley came it was like the year's 8th hurricane or so... many underestimated and we got hit pretty hard and many were unprepared....

Go into the back bedroom and make another baby.....jeez man......:crutches:

But what if the instructions on how to make a baby is on the computer?

You should always keep a back up plan in hand.....

Nah, those instructions are written on the back of my hand.....

you don't think I letting you get away with that DO you???:crutches:

My Brother and Sister in Law have their home in Ventnor, NJ. They are still not allowed to go home. The whole area has been trashed.

Shit, sorry to hear that....something this size, it's going to take a while for the folks to get shit together and figger it out.....:cussing:

that sux, I'm sorry for their losses

I agree, but did you hear about the UNION electrical workers sent aid back to states Alabama that drove up there to help?? because they were not union??? so the relief crews are heading home, it's going to be 10x as long to get power on NOW......I about shit when hearing that this AM.....where in hell is Christie on that one??? :cussing::cussing:

There are contractors from all over swarming on the ruins, looking for work. I don't know how many of them are legit or not. I am sure that we will hear many horror stories in the future. Today the news said that a lawn company (landscaper) from Pa. was in NJ looking for work - something about that doesn't sound right to me. A landscaper? :bonkers:

the one that made my blood boil was the residents shoving and throwing eggs at the electric workers because their mayor claimed (without support) that the "wealthy" enclave nearby had gotten linemen first.... now they have to go with cops - I say leave them in the dark, they're acting like neanderthals so leave them.

I read that too....people come to help and people throw shit at them because the mayor claimed bias? That mayor deserves to be drawn and quartered for inciting a mob!

My wife's uncle has/had a shop 5 blocks from the beach in Coney Island, he lost everything from what I'm hearing. Probably had app. 10 personal street rods, plus customers cars.

Also I live between ATL and Alabama. I can't tell you how many times I have seen line workers traveling through the area. Before just about any severe weather, I pass a fleet or several fleets of line worker trucks. However union/non union electricians, sounds very possible. I had a co-worker who quit his job because his uncle promised him riches to work Katrina. Boy was that a mistake!
