I know soccer is really big elsewhere, as I'm sure our other-than-American members will attest. But is anyone else noticing they seem to be pushing it harder this year than in years past? I swear it seems like every time I turn on the TV I'm seeing some commercial for this. "Watch your favorite team blah, blah, blah". I can't imagine a more boring sport to watch on TV. Almost as bad as watching NASCRAP with no wrecks. So why am I seeing so many commercials for soccer when America clearly couldn't give a collective shit about it?

Hup Holland Hup...Laat de leeuw niet in zijn hempie staan.....hup holland hup.....

I lived next door to a Brazilian soccer player in San Diego in the early 80's. The San Diego Soccers payed both Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) and outdoor events at Jack Murphy Stadium.

MISL is/was fast moving and kept your attention. Mostly because they played on a field the size of a hockey rink and could play off the side boards without being out of bounds. It was enjoyable.

Outdoor soccer is kind of like watching rust build on an old steel I-Beam in a deserted factory. Two or three of the players actually moving at a time while the rest stand there with one thumb up their rectum and the other in their mouth and switching them every five minutes. BORING ! ! ! !

I grew up playing baseball and football, fishing, hunting; enjoying life and nature. What's so wrong with that?

I believe soccer is a communist plot to weaken America. Let's have everyone run around kicking a ball. JMHO

You guys just don't understand it and somehow are reluctant or unwilling to submerge yourself in it. Then again, the rest of the world must be a bunch of idiots for watching, it's probably a plot that it's the most popular game in the world :footmouth:

Have to agree with Gene. I find all sports (sans motorsport) boring. The worst offender? Football (flame suit on). I have a high respect for soccer (real football, flame suit still on), but it's still not my deal.

The only sport I follow is F1, and boy am I hooked on it. So I must say, those people outside the US must know something :)

I grew up playing the usual games...football, baseball, etc.

I didn't start watching soccer until about 10 years ago when my son started playing. Over the last 10 years I actually learned the game from the sidelines while my son learned the game on the field.

If you know what's going on and the understand the nuances of the game....then you have a better chance of actually enjoying it and appreciate what it takes to play the game.

If you watched Gemany play Aus yesterday, you saw some very good plays and goals...but if you didn't get the play buildup, then you only saw a guy kicking a ball.............

Then again, even if you know the nuances of the game...it can still be very boring to watch....golf comes to mind:skeptic:

You got that right! I like to play golf on occasion but NOTHING is more boring than golf on television. I think that people in prison for murder or something really bad, should be forced to watch golf or opt out with a lethal injection.

I actually love indoor soccer. I used to watch it all the time growing up in Memphis. We had several great teams, Tony Carbonnani(sp?) was on all of them. It's way more entertaining to watch.

Don't understand it? Interesting. I played soccer for six years when I was a kid. But we must have played by our strange American rules, like not touching the ball with our hands and stuff.
Not calling everybody else a bunch of idiots. I'm just saying I don't get it. Much like Europeans don't seem to get American football and like I didn't "get it" with sumo wrestling when I lived in Japan.

Ok, you can't get away with that. Football is the worst offender? Puff, puff, pass, bro. I can deal with not liking football. But you finding football more boring than baseball, which is quite possibly the worst professional sport of all time? Man, you need some counseling.

I'm in England- and I've been here from before the USA vs. England. IT's quite a sport. Not my thing, but it's still a game. No idea personally what the rules are or anything else, but those guys run their collective butts off.

I'm pretty indifferent about most pro-level sports- I'm not in any one place long enough to get behind any team adn be able to watch the games.

What's new tim?? still here sweating my ASS off 100f and matching wet count for the last month or so....

slows down my enthusiasm for the Clamper project....

Wow, I get that football and baseball aren't everybody's thing. But how can anyone say hockey and basketball are boring??? I love hockey, not so much on basketball, but both are extremely high intensity sports. Even though I don't like it, I think basketball may be the most demanding professional sport there is.
Like I said earlier, I like indoor soccer. It's just the old-school outdoor stuff is massively boring. I mean jeez! You can have a 90 minute game end 1-0. Snoooooooooze. :goodnight:

I never said it made sense, it's just the way it is for me :sos:. Baseball never pretends to be an exhilarating game. I can relax and watch the game for what it is. Football claims to be intense, but really, it's 7 seconds of action followed by 30+ seconds of nothing. Can't do it. You're not the first to react this way to my feelings, haha.

And FWIW, I do enjoy a good hockey game. Used to watch my college's team all the time (and lately they've been good. They were part of the Frozen Four this year). That's a game that doesn't pretend to be anything, it's just hockey. I still don't follow it, though.

Wife is from Beverly and 10 year old daughter plays hockey but wears a Blackhawks jersey. I still remember watching Bobby Hull. :bounce:
Usually go to their games down here.
