That whole "world cup" thing...

IMO football, baseball, ice hockey and basketball are extremely boring :footmouth:

Soccer world cup...... The US team seems to be doing ok and Germany opened a nice big can of ass whooping yesterday :)

I am from Chgo....and I love the Blackhawks....waited 49 years for this moment!!!!!!!!Stanley CUP Champs!!!!!!!!

And if you are going to say it...say it like a Chicagoan......Germany opened a nice big can of whoopass!

Wife is from Beverly and 10 year old daughter plays hockey but wears a Blackhawks jersey. I still remember watching Bobby Hull. :bounce:
Usually go to their games down here.

Bobby Hull, Stan Makita...brings back memories!

One thing I like about it - and I think it's unique to the soccer world cup - is that it's a team representing your country in a global competition. All over the world you see people proudly displaying their flags and cheering for their teams ... it amazes me that here in the US most people don't care. I remember 2002 when I commented on the US team making it to the quarter final .. the response was "what quarter final ?"
:eek::eek::surrender::surrender:

Meh, that's what the Olympics are for.
Besides, I'm sure in Germany you see lots of people waiving German flags and people in Brazil waving Brazilian flags and people here waving Mexican flags.:stirpot:

:rofl::rofl:

I watched a couple of the matches.....those damn horns are annoying!

I don't mind anyone following a particular sport (I like cricket and motor sport) but what I DETEST with soccer is that it is like a religion in many parts of the world, especially England. I also hate the attitude of the players - one of them scores a goal and then drops to his knees with his arms outspread, or runs around dry humping his team mates - big fukin' deal, you did exactly what you're (over) paid to do.

I would like to see Australia do well just as I would like to see Australia do well if they qualified in an international chess competition, but I hate all the wank that goes hand in hand with soccer.

Ha, for such a major competition with so much riding on it, they're still not using video to aid the referees. Australia was knocked out in 2006 by a deliberate and blatant cheat and nothing was done about it.

Personally, I'll be glad when it's over... :bonkers:

Here's another one, why does the US call it soccer? It's football, the game is played with the foot. What you people call football should be called hand/arm/elbow ball, carry ball, throwball, catch ball...or whatever, there's hardly any foot work to it apart from the kicking.

it's not even a ball, a ball is round. Who uses an ovoid ball? US, Ozzies (ozzie football right?) and rugby?? Can't think of anyone else.

Not putting down "american football" but come on now Soccer....wtf???

Saudi, the video aids are not there because of 1 reason, the fifa is a nazi like regime with that pompous corrupt bastard Blatter at the head of it.

I don't give a shit about soccer or football, but I can't argue with your logic.

Wondered this myself. It really doesn't make sense why we call our game "football" and actual "football", "soccer". Whatever, I'm sure you know what I mean.
Granted, I can't come up with a better name myself but I completely agree.

Wayne, I have the exact same complaint about our "football" players. They may not drop to their knees and pray or whatever, but they celebrate every time they score. It's ridiculous. It would be like me jumping up and down every time I did an oil filter change. I find it obnoxious and juvenile.
"Hey, genius, you get paid millions of dollars to put points on the board. It's your Goddamn job".

I've played them all and Ice hockey has been by far the most intense fast paced sport.

What I can't understand is how someone can a love a sports team to the point where they get tattoos of the teams logo

I don't really like to watch sports on TV though

Now Rugby is a real mans game, or Australian rules is a Mans Man game. Football (soccer)players should were tights, slippers and a tutu, what a bunch of pussies when they roll around holding there legs. Then watch Rugby players with blood running down there faces or legs and they don't even notice.

You're spot on Dean, although I have to differ with you a little on Aussie Rules - it's actually completely mad and there are (apparently) no rules. I played it once at school many years ago and afterwards thought it would save an hour and a half and just be easier to have some big guy kick crap out of me in the changing room :amazed:

But you're right - a pretend fall, holding a shin and rolling around like a 6 year old, compared to big burly guys wearing tape around their heads to stop their ears being pulled off...
