Trailing Arm Rebuild Questions

Thanks for the link TwinTurbo, that's exactly what I need and I'll keep an eye on the spindle MYBAD79 once I'm ready to rebuild.

Since I'm from Canada, I'll check around and the best place to get these parts from.

If you have 0015 -002 with oil you should be ok. If anything if you over pressed and distorted the cage you would have too much endplay. If they spin smooth you should be ok. If you used the new Mobil1 grease this may be the reason as well, that's why I stopped using it. The increased drag was way too much for my liking.

Parts will vary with the quality of the parts. I use only USA timkens and CR seals that I buy from an industrial supplier. All are individual wrapped and boxed.

I could cut cost $30-$40 by using cheaper parts but that's not how I do them. One thing a lot of the parts need attention, they are not bolt in. I'm talking about shields, plates, SS shoes and hardware.

Agree..... you probably want to replace the parking brake stuff and the dust shields.... it's a lot of work and once you realize how much work it is you want to use the best parts available to ensure you don't have to do it again one or two years down the road...
doing it right with quality parts is expensive but cost you less in the long run...

Forum member Tracdogg2 can hook you up with parts, I buy parts from him all the time, and very rarely have to pay duties or taxes. GTR1999 can also hook you up with the correct, quality parts.

So am I. I just priced it out at Rockauto and it is 46.00 for the bearings and seals for one side. Bearings are Bower/BCA.

I'm telling ya, get your parts from this man - he will only get you the good stuff, trust me on this. He also has awesome prices, usually cheaper than anyone else!

To give you another comparision, the Timkens and CR seals I use sell for $120 a car set. Those are the only ones I'll use after using other "timken" that opened up during install. In theory all bearings should be ISO certified for quality but who knows. All I can say is I have seen the difference.
I'm way too critical with this stuff, if I setup bearings and the endplay is 003 in final I'll throw them out. Maybe I should just sell them to some of the rebuilders out there who complain about me, my 2nds will be their first runs!:censored:

Good luck buy the best parts now and take your time with the job.

Gary, that $50 estimate I quoted earlier in this thread was for one set of Timkens and seals from Autozone. This was in 2004 so I'm sure prices are higher now. Everything I got said made in USA except the inner race which said made in Canada.
BTW, I recall you saying you're using something other than M1 grease now? Curious as to what you've gone to. I was reading a discussion not long ago saying the the M1 now sold in the USA may be a different formulation, but that the original stuff is still sold in Canada.
See the last 4 posts on this page. There are links to the specs of what appear to be 2 different versions of M1.

Hey Rip
Good to hear from you again. Bearings have gone for sure. Timken went up 5-6% last year, Tom's stuff went up 10% in Jan 09.

I no longer trust the Mobil 1 for bearing work, especially rear setups. I found it really created some drag on my setups. This was comparing the old vs the new formulation. I use Timken grease now, just not that common to get.
